  • Constraint-Weighted a -Stratification for Computerized Adaptive Testing With Nonstatistical Constraints

Open Access•Ying Cheng, Ying Cheng Ying Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2009

a-stratification is a method that utilizes items with small discrimination (a) parameters early in an exam and those with higher a values when more is learned about the ability parameter. It can achieve much better item usage than the maximum information criterion (MIC). To make a-stratification more practical and more widely applicable, a method for weighting the item selection process in a-stratification as a means of satisfying multiple test c…

  • On the Use of Nonparametric Item Characteristic Curve Estimation Techniques for Checking Parametric Model Fit

Open Access•Young-Sun Lee, Young Sun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2008

The purpose of this study was to assess the model fit of a 2PL through comparison with the nonparametric item characteristic curve (ICC) estimation procedures. Results indicate that three nonparametric procedures implemented produced ICCs that are similar to that of the 2PL for items simulated to fit the 2PL. However for misfitting items, especially nonmonotone items, the greatest difference is between the 2PL and kernel smoothing procedures. In …

  • Techniques For Developing Health Quality of Life Scales for Point of Service Use

Open Access•Young-Sun Lee, Jeffrey Douglas et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2006•References: 1

  • A Randomized, Controlled Trial to Improve Advance Care Planning Among Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

    Mi-Kyung Song, Mi‐Kyung Song et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2005•References: 18

BACKGROUND: Although many healthcare providers and researchers consider it necessary to assist patients with end-stage chronic illnesses to plan for the end of life, they tend to avoid discussing end-of-life issues with patients before major surgery. Consequently, surgical patients and their families generally have insufficient knowledge to make plans in case of life-threatening complications. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to evaluat…
