  • Predictors of Contraceptive Practice for Low-Income Women in Cali, Colombia

    An attempt has been made to determine which of several social, demographic and economic variables best account for the variance in contraceptive use in a low-income, urban Colombian population. The results indicated that of the independent variables included, occurrence or non-occurrence of intercourse in the past month, education, employment status, marital status and age were the best predictors, in that order.     A linked record analysis was performed on the parent populations of all marriages and births in Indiana for the years 1962-1967. Lake County was selected for study reducing the parent marriage population to 19325. The birth population was 14275. 6359 marriage-birth linkages were found therefore first births were found for 32.9% of all marriages (45.2% for 1962 marriages alone).
