  • A Critical Assessment of the Oral Condition of the Crew of the Franklin Expedition + Supplementary Appendix 1 (See Article Tools)

Open Access•Russell S Taichman, Tom Gro et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2017

Little is known about the fate of the crew of the Franklin expedition after they sailed from England in 1845. Scant physical evidence and limited Inuit testimony have fueled speculation that the crew had scurvy, had been poisoned by lead, or had botulism or tuberculosis. The Schwatka expedition (1878 – 80) documented that several Inuit families had observed sailors of the Franklin expedition dragging ship’s boats in Washington Bay on the southwes…

  • A comparative analysis of the Su-pung-er and Bayne testimonies related to the Franklin expedition

During Charles Francis Hall's second Arctic expedition (1864–1869) to find survivors and/or documents of Sir John Franklin's 1845 Northwest Passage expedition, two separate Inuit testimonies were recorded of a potential burial vault of a high-ranking officer. The first testimony was provided by a Boothia Inuk named Su-pung-er. The second testimony was documented by Captain Peter Bayne who, at the time, was employed by Hall. To date the vault has …

    Art Sedrakyan, Danica Marinac-Dabic et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2010•References: 29

Implantable medical devices (IMD) are frequently used in interventional medicine. There are a host of complex methodological issues to consider in conducting device studies. A general conceptual framework for evidence evaluation is needed to help investigators conduct comparative studies in this setting. It is known that clinical trials of implants require study design planning and creative execution that are quite different from those in pharmac…

    Open Access•Tom Gro, Tom Gross•ARTICLE•ACM SIGGROUP Bulletin•2001

Despite huge progress in information and communication technology it is often difficult to spontaneously contact persons who are at other locations. Often important information about the persons at other sites is missing. Users need to know if the potential communication or cooperation partners are present in the system, if they are available, how busy they are, and so forth. Furthermore, users need this information independently of their current…
