  • Initiation, cessation and resumption of attendance at the Melbourne supervised injecting room among a cohort of people who inject drugs

Open Access•Ashleigh C Stewart, Kasun Rathnayake et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2026

We found high MSIR service uptake, relative to cessation. Attendance was higher among men, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, and those recently homeless, with frequent attenders injecting more often and those on OAT less likely to attend frequently

  • Prevalence of Alcohol and Other Drug Use in Patients Presenting to Hospital for Violence-Related Injuries

    Open Access•Georgina Lau, Jia Y Ang et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2024

Substance use is a risk factor for being both a perpetrator and a victim of violence. The aim of this systematic review was to report the prevalence of acute pre-injury substance use in patients with violence-related injuries. Systematic searches were used to identify observational studies that included patients aged ≥15 years presenting to hospital after violence-related injuries and used objective toxicology measures to report prevalence of acu…

  • An examination of the role of changes in country-level leisure time internet use and computer gaming on adolescent drinking in 33 European countries

Open Access•Rakhi Vashishtha, John Holmes et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2022

  • Level and correlates of social support in a community‐based sample of Australians who primarily smoke methamphetamine

    Open Access•Michael Leach, Michael J Leach et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 5

Little is known about the level and correlates of social support amongst people who use methamphetamine. We aimed to describe, and determine characteristics associated with, social support amongst a community-recruited cohort of Australians who primarily smoked methamphetamine. A cross-sectional study was conducted with data from the Victorian Methamphetamine Cohort Study (VMAX). Adults (aged ≥18 years) who used methamphetamine were recruited fro…

  • Incarceration history and risk of HIV and hepatitis C virus acquisition among people who inject drugs

Open Access•Jack Stone, Hannah Fraser et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Infectious Diseases•2018

  • The pitfalls of prevalence estimation

Paul Dietze, Paul M Dietze et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2018

Objectives: The prevalence of regular and dependent methamphetamine use in Australia in 2013/14 was recently estimated indirectly using multipliers at 268,000 regular (defined as >monthly use in the past 6 months) and 160,000 dependent (defined as >3 on the Severity of Dependence Scale) methamphetamine consumers, respectively. We replicated this approach using more contemporary multipliers and alternate data sources to explore identified limitati…

  • Participatory development of Midy (Mobile Intervention for Drinking in Young people)

    Open Access•Cassandra Wright, Cassandra J C Wright et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Findings suggest that the intervention was considered acceptable, feasible and novel to our participants; it now requires comprehensive testing and evaluation

  • Income inequality and alcohol attributable harm in Australia

Open Access•Paul Dietze, Paul M Dietze et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2009

We found a curvilinear relationship between income inequality and the rates of some types of alcohol-attributable hospitalisation and death at a local area level in Australia. While alcohol-attributable harms generally increased with increasing income inequality, alcohol-attributable hospitalisations actually showed the reverse relationship at low levels of income inequality. The curvilinear patterns we observed are inconsistent with monotonic tr…
