The Quality of Life and Associated Factors Among Older Adults in Central Nepal
Ensuring people's quality of life (QOL) has become increasingly challenging due to population aging. This study aimed to investigate the QOL among older people and factors associated with it in an urban setting of Central Nepal using the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-OLD) tool. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Central Nepal. The association between QOL and independent variables was first examined using a univariate ana…
Dietary Practices Among Young Children in Nepal’s Karnali Mountains
Malnutrition is a significant public health challenge in low- and middle-income countries, especially in food-insecure areas including those in Nepal. Despite global efforts to improve infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, significant gaps remain in dietary diversity, meal frequency, and fruit or vegetable consumption. However, there is a lack of data from the highly food-insecure mountains of Nepal. This study examines the prevalence …
Global burden of bacterial antimicrobial resistance 1990–2021
BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses an important global health challenge in the 21st century. A previous study has quantified the global and regional burden of AMR for 2019, followed with additional publications that provided more detailed estimates for several WHO regions by country. To date, there have been no studies that produce comprehensive estimates of AMR burden across locations that encompass historical trends and future for…
Synergistic associations of antenatal care visits and iron-folic acid supplementation with low birth weight
The current study provides important evidence on the synergy between ANC visits and iron-folic acid consumption during pregnancy to capitalize on the existing national maternal health programs in the South Asian region, including low-and middle-income countries for positive foetal outcomes
Determinants of exclusive breastfeeding among infants under six months in Nepal
Various individual- and community-level factors influence the uptake of EBF in Nepal, underscoring the need to improve the approaches and strategies of EBF programs. This study highlighted the significant association of community-level factors (≥ 4 ANC visits coverage, poverty level, and maternal employment status) with EBF among infants under 6 months. It revealed approximately 9% variability in EBF across clusters. Future efforts to promote EBF…

Burgeoning burden of non-communicable diseases in Nepal
In the last decades, prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has escalated in Nepal. This study reviews existing evidence on the burden of non-communicable diseases in Nepal using the framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley for scoping reviews. A total of 110 articles were identified from database searches, and four from additional searches. The titles and abstracts were reviewed using predetermined screening criteria. We limited our se…
Climate change and adverse health events
Nepal is a country economically dependent on climate-sensitive industries. It is highly vulnerable to the environmental, social, economic and health impacts of climate change. The objective of this study is to explore community perceptions of climate variability and human health risks. In this letter, we present a cross sectional study conducted between August 2013 and July 2014 in the Tanahu district of Nepal. Our analysis is based on 258 face-t…
Factors associated with Early Initiation of Breastfeeding in Western Nepal
The initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth has numerous nutritional and immunological benefits and has been found to reduce neonatal mortality. This community-based prospective cohort study aimed to report the rate of, and factors associated with, early initiation of breastfeeding in Western Nepal. The rate of early initiation of breastfeeding was reported, and associations between early initiation and independent variables were tes…
Multimorbidity and its social determinants among older people in southern provinces, Vietnam
The study found a high burden of multimorbidity among illiterate, especially those living in rural areas. This highlights the need for targeted community based programs aimed at reducing the burden of chronic disease
The effect of mother’s educational status on early initiation of breastfeeding
As the association between a mother's educational status and her likelihood of early initiation of breastfeeding increases, long-term approaches to prioritising education for women and girls should be explored. In the short term, uneducated mothers should be targeted with breastfeeding promotion strategies such as counselling and peer education
Factors associated with non-utilisation of health service for childbirth in Timor-Leste
BACKGROUND: Timor-Leste is a young developing country in Asia. Most of its infrastructure was destroyed after a long armed conflict for independence. Despite recent expansion of health facilities and investment in healthcare, maternal mortality remains high with most mothers still giving birth at home. This study investigated factors affecting the non-utilisation of health service for childbirth in the aftermath of the independence conflict. METH…
A community-based prospective cohort study of exclusive breastfeeding in central Nepal
Despite the almost universal practice of breastfeeding, the reported exclusive breastfeeding rates declined substantially over time. Exclusive breastfeeding up to six months was more common in rural than urban areas of central Nepal. Urban mothers also exclusively breastfed shorter than rural mothers
Quality of life among people living with hypertension in a rural Vietnam community
WHOQOL-BREF is a reliable instrument to measure QOL among hypertensive patients. The results revealed low QOL in psychological domain and inequality in QOL across socio-demographic characteristics. Given the results, encouraging physical activities and strengthening treatment adherence should be considered to improve QOL of hypertensive people, especially for psychological aspect. Actions to improve QOL among hypertensive patients targeted toward…
Incidence of Low Birthweight in Central Nepal
Exclusive breastfeeding practices in relation to social and health determinants
The proportion of infants who were EBF was higher in Nepal in 2011survey compared to 2006 survey; however, this is still below the recommended WHO target of 90%. Infant's age, ecological region, parity and father's occupation were associated with EBF. Further interventions such as peer counselling, antenatal counselling and involving fathers in the community to promote EBF in Nepal are recommended
