Genetic testing can provide useful information related to a person’s health history. Adoptees who lack access to family health history due to inherent separation from their birth family are among those likely to benefit from this. The Bioshield Initiative seeks to stimulate development of new drugs and vaccines to prevent and treat diseases caused by biological agents likely to be used by terrorists, and recent proposals have sought to expand patent protections in this context.
