The Voodoo Ethnologists of Omega
South Africa's colony, Namibia, served as a crucial testing ground for apartheid: not only was it the scene of the only significant effort to impose 'grand apartheid', but also of its demise. This essay examines the role of social engineering experts in these efforts by focusing on their role in the social construction of Omega base which housed Bushman soldiers. Moritz Bonn, Southern Africa and the Critique of Colonialism
In 1906/7 Moritz Bonn (1873–1965) set out to test Hobson's theory of Imperialism in southern Africa. The purpose of this note is to share the delight of viewing “Civilization on Trial in Sou…
Nuclear magnetic resonance relaxation of glycogen H1 in solution
The NMR relaxation properties of the H1 proton of oyster glycogen in D2O and H2O solutions have been studied using nonselective, semiselective, and selective inversion recovery and Hahn spin-echo pulse sequences. The data were analyzed in terms of an isotropic, rigid-rotor dipole-dipole model including cross-relaxation. At 8.4 T in D2O, p = 5.4 +/- 0.4 s-1 and sigma = -4.5 +/- 0.4 s-1. The large, negative sigma value is consistent with strong cro…
