Aged and Health Care Service Use by Older Australians Who Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex or Gender Diverse: A Retrospective Cohort Study
This retrospective cohort study aimed to characterize individuals who self-identify as LGBTI+ entering the long-term aged care sector in Australia and their aged and health care services utilization after an aged care eligibility assessment or entering care. About 471 individuals were identified in the three-year study period. The median age at assessment was 77 (IQR 71-84), 45% ( n = 212) identified as female, and 21.9% ( n = 103) had a diagnosi…
‘I Have Never Been in That Kind of All‐Consuming Pain … I Did Not Know What Else to Do’: The Journey to Hospital Admission With Low Back Pain From the Perspectives of Patients
BACKGROUND: There is a need to better understand patient factors contributing to low back pain (LBP)-related hospitalisations to improve health service delivery and reduce avoidable admissions. OBJECTIVE: This study explored the experiences of people with LBP leading up to and resulting in hospital admission. DESIGN: Qualitative descriptive methodology using semi-structured interviews. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Patients admitted with non-specific…
A qualitative study of a Sporting Memories program in South Australia: Belonging, participation, and social connection

One initiative that aims to address these challenges is the Sporting Memories program. This program was developed in the United Kingdom and licensed to South Australia in 2019. The prog…
Exploring Allied Health Models of Care for Children with Developmental Health Concerns, Delays, and Disabilities in Rural and Remote Areas: A Systematic Scoping Review
Multiple models of care are currently in operation for children with developmental needs in rural and remote areas and appear to improve the quality of care. Due to complexities within, and limitations of, the evidence base, it is unclear if one model of care is superior to another. This review provides a basis for further research to explore why some models may be more effective than others
Characterizing the Available Outdoor Spaces and Their Use in South Australian Public Primary Schools
Purpose-built nature play spaces are popular in schools around the globe; however, little is known about their distribution and use in South Australia. School staff representing 52 South Australian public primary schools participated in an online survey. Half (56%) of included schools were metropolitan. Half (52%) were economically advantaged. Purpose-built nature play spaces were present, planned or in construction in 88% of schools in the study…
Primary School Educators’ Perspectives and Experiences of Nature-Based Play and Learning and Its Benefits, Barriers, and Enablers: A Qualitative Descriptive Study
Nature-based play and learning is of increasing interest to primary schools and research suggests that it has many potential benefits for children's health and development. However, little is known about educators' perspectives and experiences of nature-based play and learning, particularly the barriers, benefits and enablers, despite their direct relevance to the uptake of nature-based play and learning in schools. A qualitative descriptive meth…
Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Clinical Supervision of Healthcare Students in Rural Settings: A Qualitative Study
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to healthcare student placements worldwide, including already challenged rural areas in Australia. While accounts are emerging of student experiences in larger centers and from a student perspective, there is a need for in-depth exploration of student supervisor experiences in rural areas at the onset of the pandemic. This study aims to address this gap through 23 individual, semi-structure…
Identifying opportunities for strengthening advice to enhance vegetable liking in the early years of life: Qualitative consensus and triangulation methods
Objective: To prioritise and refine a set of evidence-informed statements into advice messages to promote vegetable liking in early childhood, and to determine applicability for dissemination of advice to relevant audiences. Design: A nominal group technique (NGT) workshop and a Delphi survey were conducted to prioritise and achieve consensus (≥70 % agreement) on thirty evidence-informed maternal (perinatal and lactation stage), infant (complemen…
Healthcare Utilization and Knee Osteoarthritis Symptoms among Urban Older Malaysian
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent chronic disorder in the older population. While timely management is important to minimize the consequences of knee OA, information on the utilization of healthcare services among this population remains limited. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to determine the healthcare utilization and its associated factors in older persons with knee OA. Cross-sectional data from 1073 participants aged 60 ye…
The outcomes of nature-based learning for primary school aged children: A systematic review of quantitative research
Supporting strategies for enhancing vegetable liking in the early years of life: An umbrella review of systematic reviews
The impacts of unstructured nature play on health in early childhood development: A systematic review
Community services' involvement in the discharge of older adults from hospital into the community
It is plausible that each model identified in this systematic review has a role to play in successfully discharging different cohorts of older adults from hospital. Further research is required to identify appropriate population groups for various discharge models and to select suitable outcome measures to determine the effectiveness of these models, considering all stakeholders' involved
