  • The Gender Wage Gap in an Online Labor Market: The Cost of Interruptions

Abi Adams, Abi Adams‐Prassl et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2025

This paper analyzes gender differences in working patterns and wages on Amazon Mechanical Turk, a popular online labor platform. Using information on 2 million tasks, we find no gender differences in task selection nor experience. Nonetheless, women earn 20% less per hour on average. • Measuring Workplace Sexual Harassment: A Review

Open Access•Abi Adams, Abi Adams‐Prassl et al.•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2025

Measurement is a key challenge in studying sexual harassment. People's understanding of harassment varies across cultural and legal contexts, and there are many factors contributing to under‐reporting. We review the psychology literature on the measurement of sexual harassment and assess the techniques employed in economics in this light. Using an online survey of the US workers, we show that survey methods that provide explicit behavioral exampl…

  • Vexatious Claims: Challenging the Case for Employment Tribunal Fees

    Open Access•Abi Adams, Abi Adams‐Prassl et al.•ARTICLE•Modern Law Review•2017

Since July 2013, recourse to Employment Tribunals in the United Kingdom has attracted fees of up to £1,200 for single claimants. The impact of this reform has been dramatic: within a year, claims dropped by nearly 80 per cent. This paper suggests that this fee regime is in clear violation of domestic and international norms, including Article 6(1) ECHR and the EU principle of effective judicial protection. Drawing on rational choice theory and em…

  • For Love or Reward? Characterising Preferences for Giving to Parents in an Experimental Setting

    Open Access•Maria Porter, Abi Adams et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 36

Understanding the motivations behind intergenerational transfers is an important and active research area in economics. The existence and responsiveness of familial transfers have consequences for the design of intra and intergenerational redistributive programmes, particularly as such programmes may crowd out private transfers amongst altruistic family members. Yet, despite theoretical and empirical advances in this area, significant gaps in our…

  • Models of Revealed Preference

Open Access•Abi Adams, Abi Adams‐Prassl et al.•OTHER•Emerging Trends in the Social and…•2015

Revealed preference theory is concerned with what we can learn about the process by which economic agents make decisions using simply the features of the world that we observe: choices. Different economic models place different restrictions on these choices. The revealed preference literature derives these restrictions and then puts them to use. Research effort has recently been extended far beyond the axiomatic characterization of neoclassical m…
