    Open Access•James M Bishop•ARTICLE•Sociology of Work and Occupations•1979

  • Transitivity in Work-Relevant and Sentiment-Based Sociograms

    James M Bishop•ARTICLE•The Pacific Sociological Review•1979•Cited by: 1•References: 12

The logic of balance-theoretical approaches to sociometric structure is applied to the analysis of both sentiment-based and work-relevant sociograms in 24 natural work settings of the same type. While the sentiment-based structures show a higher degree of transitivity, consistent with the balance perspective, other findings suggest the need not only for further research in general, but also for studies to be carried out in diverse settings and in…

  • Organizational Influences on the Work Orientations of Elementary Teachers

    Open Access•James M Bishop•ARTICLE•Sociology of Work and Occupations•1977

Existing literature on the work of the elementary school teacher tends to be based on the assumption that the organizational work context is the self-contained class room and that this situation leads to certain types of orientations with respect to the occupational task. Underlying this literature is the implicit hypothesis that other work contexts would produce different work orientations. This paper presents a means of testing this implicit hy…
