Late Pleistocene Glacial Events in the Central Apennines, Italy
The study of glacial evidence in the Gran Sasso Massif of the Central Apennines, Italy, has allowed the last maximum advance and the subsequent stadial phases to be dated and the mean annual temperature and quantity of precipitation in the form of snow to be assessed for a number of periods. The glaciers probably reached their maximum extension (Campo Imperatore Stade) ca. 22,600 14 C yr B.P. and started to retreat ca. 21,000 yr B.P., leaving beh…
Late Quaternary tephra-derived paleosols in central Italy's carbonate Apennine Range
Orographic clouds in north Victoria Land from AVHRR images
Orographic clouds over north Victoria Land, East Antarctica, have been observed in Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) satellite imagery. These occasional clouds are discussed through analysis of their spectral features in AVHRR data. Temporal occurrence, spatial extension, and direction of the clouds are also discussed in relation to meteorological data for two periods characterised by katabatic winds, in December 1992 and January 1…
Palaeoseismicity in the Gran Sasso Massif (Abruzzo, Central Italy)
