  • Late-Holocene fluctuations of monsoonal Qiangyong Glacier, southern Tibetan Plateau

    Open Access•Xiaolong Zhang, Baiqing Xu et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•References: 15

Glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are reliable water sources for Asia. Continuously high-resolution and high-accuracy long-term glacier fluctuations have been examined to improve the reliability of predictions regarding future TP glacier behavior under global climate change. In this study, we analyzed physiochemical parameters in typical glaciolacustrine sediments to reconstruct multidecadal activities of the monsoonal Qiangyong Glacier over t…

  • Reduced early Holocene moisture availability inferred from δD values of sedimentary n -alkanes in Zigetang Co, Central Tibetan Plateau

    Open Access•Chuanfang Jin, Franziska Günther et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 7

An 885-cm-long laminated sediment core was retrieved from Zigetang Co, a non-glacial meltwater-fed lake in the central Tibetan Plateau, and analyzed for n-alkanes as well as their hydrogen isotopes to trace the regional climatic and environmental history spanning the last 13.8 cal. ka BP. The short-chain n-alkanes C 15/16/17 , likely derived from aquatic algae, plankton, and photosynthetic bacteria, dominate the n-alkane composition in this lake.…

  • Climatic imprint of the mid-latitude Westerlies in the Central Tian Shan of Kyrgyzstan and teleconnections to North Atlantic climate variability during the last 6000 years

    Open Access•Stefan Lauterbach, Roman Witt et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 17

In general, a moderate drying trend is observed in mid-latitude arid Central Asia since the Mid-Holocene, attributed to the progressively weakening influence of the mid-latitude Westerlies on regional climate. However, as the spatio-temporal pattern of this development and the underlying climatic mechanisms are yet not fully understood, new high-resolution paleoclimate records from this region are needed. Within this study, a sediment core from L…

  • A synthesis of hydrogen isotope variability and its hydrological significance at the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau

Franziska Guenther, Bernhard Aichner et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Complexity of Soil Organic Matter

Open Access•Janet Rethemeyer, Christiane Kramer et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 24

Radiocarbon measurements of different lipid fractions and individual compounds, isolated from soil samples collected on 2 different agricultural long-term study sites, located in the rural area of Rotthalmünster (Germany) and in the city of Halle/Saale (Germany), were analyzed to obtain information about sources and the stability of soil organic matter (SOM). Different lipid compound classes were isolated by automated solvent extraction and subse…

  • In Vitro Decomposition of Bone Collagen by Soil Bacteria

Open Access•Astrid Balzer, Gerd Gleixner et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1997•Cited by: 14•References: 18

To understand biogenic collagen type I decomposition and to establish how diagenesis may bias archaeometric data, modern mammalian bone was inoculated with a selection of ubiquitous soil bacteria. The presence of exogenous microbial biomass in the inoculated specimens was then checked microscopically prior to collagen extraction. The experimentally degraded bone collagen showed altered amino acid compositions, attributable to the selective breakd…
