  • Links between precipitation patterns over eastern tropical South America and productivity in the western tropical South Atlantic Ocean during the last deglacial

    Open Access•Alisson K Martins, Karlos G D Kochhann et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2023

  • Grave gifts manifest the ritual status of cattle in Neolithic societies of northern Germany

Open Access•Jan Weber, Jan Piet Brozio et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2020•Cited by: 7•References: 10

The Neolithic period in NW-Europe marks a time of major transformation in human lifestyle including sedentism, farming, agropastoralism with early animal husbandry and the use of ornamented pottery by “Funnelbeaker” societies. Domestic animals, in particular cattle, served for traction, plowing, and manuring to support agricultural production but also supplied a variety of dietary products including meat, fat, and milk as well as wool. The impact…

  • Unstable early-Holocene climatic and environmental conditions in northwestern Russia derived from a multidisciplinary study of a lake-sediment sequence from Pichozero, southeastern Russian Karelia

    Open Access•Barbara Wohlfarth, Lorenz Schwark et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2004•Cited by: 1•References: 6

A sediment core from Lake Pichozero (6146'; N, 3725'; E 118 m a.s.l.) provides information on the environmental and climatic conditions in southeastern Russian Karelia during the Lateglacial and early Holocene (12 800-9300 cal. BP). The chronology of the sequence is constrainied by varve counting and AMS 14 C measurement of terrestrial plant macrofossils. Multiproxy analyses (magnetic susceptibility, grain size, TOC, TN, TS, Rock Eval, pollen and…

  • Complexity of Soil Organic Matter

Open Access•Janet Rethemeyer, Christiane Kramer et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 3•References: 24

Radiocarbon measurements of different lipid fractions and individual compounds, isolated from soil samples collected on 2 different agricultural long-term study sites, located in the rural area of Rotthalmünster (Germany) and in the city of Halle/Saale (Germany), were analyzed to obtain information about sources and the stability of soil organic matter (SOM). Different lipid compound classes were isolated by automated solvent extraction and subse…
