  • University of Washington Dates IV

    Open Access•A W Fairhall, A W Young et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1976•Cited by: 11•References: 18

The dates reported in this list are for geologic and archaeologic samples only. During the interval since our last date list (R, 1966, v 8, p 498-506) most of our measurements have been on samples of sea water. These will be reported separately at a later time. The methods used are essentially those reported previously (R, 1963, v 5, p 80-81) but with the following notable changes and additions: We now prepare our methane counting gas as describe…

  • Methodology of Radiocarbon Dating and Radiocarbon Dates from Nelson Bay Cave

  • Radiocarbon Dating at the University of Washington III

    Open Access•A W Fairhall, W R Schell et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1966•Cited by: 2•References: 2

This date list consists of those measurements made since 1962. The counter is one described previously (Fairhall and Schell, 1963). The results are computed using NBS oxalic acid as the standard and 5568 for the half-life of C 14 . Standard deviations are computed for each measurement, including the statistical error in the sample count and uncertainties in background and standard. In general, each sample is counted at least twice. The quoted err…

  • Radiocarbon Dating at the University of Washington. II

    Open Access•A W Fairhall, W R Schell•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1963•References: 1

The radiocarbon dating equipment previously used (Dorn, Fairhall, Schell and Takashima, 1962) has been moved to a different location. During the resulting hiatus in our dating program we have constructed a new counter with a few novel features. It is similar in concept to the Houtermans-Oeschger counter (Houtermans and Oeschger, 1958), but two changes have been made in the design: (1) The inner counter, constructed of thin, metallized plastic foi…

  • Radiocarbon Dating at the University of Washington I

    T F Dorn, A W Fairhall et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1962•Cited by: 9•References: 15

Beginning in 1955 a C 14 dating apparatus was constructed at this University for the purpose of measuring the specific activity of tree rings selected from a specimen of Sequoia wood having 3000 growth rings (Dorn, 1958). The original purpose was to obtain a measure of the half life of C 14 by essentially the inverse of C 14 dating. For various reasons the project was not completed, and for about a year the apparatus stood idle for lack of financ…
