  • Missmarple

    Open Access•F Crova, F SALTERI et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•References: 26

Radiocarbon measurements on the carbonaceous aerosol fractions are an effective tool for aerosol source apportionment. For these measurements, a new sample preparation line (MISSMARPLE: MIlan Small-SaMple Automated Radiocarbon Preparation LinE for atmospheric aerosol) was built in Milan (Italy). MISSMARPLE can separate different carbon fractions (i.e. total carbon (TC), elemental carbon (EC)), automates the sample combustion processes and the CO …

  • Status of Sample Combustion and Graphitization Lines at INFN-Labec, Florence

    Mariaelena Fedi, M E Fedi et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 6•References: 17

Since installation of the new accelerator at INFN-LABEC in Florence in 2004, the workload has progressively increased in the radiocarbon dating laboratory, requiring a faster sample preparation throughput and greater versatility to allow for a larger variety of treated materials. The “standard” sample preparation line is based on an elemental analyzer (EA) for the combustion of the pretreated samples, and a vacuum line where the CO 2 is collected…

  • Intercomparison of 14 C Analysis of Carbonaceous Aerosols

    Open Access•S Szidat, G Bench et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 28

Radiocarbon analysis of the carbonaceous aerosol allows an apportionment of fossil and non-fossil sources of airborne particulate matter (PM). A chemical separation of total carbon (TC) into its subtractions organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) refines this powerful technique, as OC and EC originate from different sources and undergo different processes in the atmosphere. Although 14 C analysis of TC, EC, and OC has recently gained incre…
