University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XV
This list includes ages measured from August 1974 to May 1976 using the benzene scintillation method. All archaeologic and geologic samples except Sahara Libico series, come from Italian territory. These datings were carried out partly with the liquid scintillation counter previously described (Alessio et al , 1973) and partly with a new liquid scintillation counter (Alessio et al , 1976b). Vials, 4.5ml in volume, described in Alessio et al , 197…
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XVI
This list includes dates measured from July 1975 to December 1976 with CO 2 proportional counters. All archaeologic and geologic samples except for Turkey and Sistan series come from Italian territory. Laboratory equipment, largely unchanged but expanded and technically improved, has been previously described (Alessio et al , 1970b, 1976)
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XIV
This list includes dates measured from January 1974 to June 1975 with previously described CO 2 proportional counters (Alessio et al , 1970b). All archaeologic and geologic samples except for Arslantepe series come from Italian territory. Chemical apparatus for CO 2 preparation and purification is unchanged (Alessio et al , 1970b). Data recording devices have recently been replaced with integrated circuits built entirely at the Lab. The logic of …
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XIII
This list includes the second group of age measurements made from September 1972 to July 1974 using the benzene scintillation method. All archaeologic and geologic samples come from Italian territory. Chemical apparatus for benzene synthesis and the liquid scintillation spectrometer are unchanged (Alessio et al , 1970a, 1973). Charcoal and wood samples underwent standard pretreatment by boiling with 5 to 10% HCl; α -labeled samples were given add…
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XII
This list includes age measurements carried out from January 1972 to December 1973 with previously described CO 2 -proportional counters (Alessio et al , 1970). All archaeologic and geologic samples but one come from Italian territory
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates X
This list includes age measurements made from November 1970 to December 1971. All archaeologic and geologic samples come from Italian territory. Laboratory equipment, largely unchanged but expanded and technically improved, was previously described (Alessio et al. , 1970a). Charcoal and wood samples underwent standard pretreatment by boiling with 5 to 10% HCl; α -labeled samples were given additional leaching with 6% NH 4 OH or 0.2N NaOH
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates XI
During the last few years, we have set up the benzene scintillation method in our laboratory. C 14 activity measurements are now carried out with both liquid scintillation and CO 2 -proportional counters. Chemical apparatus for benzene synthesis and a liquid scintillation spectrometer for low-level counting were built and are described below
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates IX
This list includes age measurements carried out from November 1969 to December 1970. All archaeologic and geologic samples come from Italian territory. Laboratory equipment, largely unchanged, has been described (Alessio et al. , 1970)
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates VIII
This list includes age measurements carried out from December 1968 to October 1969. Archaeologic samples are from Italian and Swat (W Pakistan) territories. All geologic samples come from Italian territory. Chemical techniques remain the same (Bella and Cortesi, 1960; Alessio, Bella, and Cortesi, 1964)
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates VII
We list measurements carried out between June and November 1968. Archaeologic samples are from Italian and Swat (W Pakistan) territories; all geologic samples are from Italian territory. Chemical preparation of samples, measurement technique, and the modern standard are unchanged (Bella and Cortesi, 1960; Alessio, Bella, and Cortesi, 1964; Alessio et al. , 1968). For each sample of CO 2 the counting rate was corrected according to mass-spectromet…
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates VI
The list includes age measurements carried out from December 1966 and November 1967. All samples both of archaeologic and geologic interest are drawn from Italian territory. Chemical techniques have remained unchanged (Bella and Cortesi, 1960). Two counters have been used for dating: the 1st, of 1.5 L, already described (Bella and Cortesi, 1960; Alessio, Bella, and Cortesi, 1964), the 2nd, of 1 L, recently assembled, is identical to the previous …
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates V
The list of age measurements given below was obtained from December 1965 to October 1966, Nearly all archaeologic samples dated come from Italian territory, a few from Europe, Asia, and Africa. Some of the series continue or complete measurements published in previous lists (Rome II, III and IV) and refer to important deposits whose material, the result of several excavation campaigns, has been submitted at different times to our laboratory. All …
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates IV
The list includes age measurements carried out from December 1964 to October 1965. As in the previous list (Rome III) the samples dated are almost all of archaeological interest and are drawn from Italian and some European and Asiatic territories
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates III
The following list comprises age measurements carried out between December 1963 and September 1964. The samples dated are almost all of archaeological interest and are drawn from Italian and Egyptian territory
University of Rome Carbon-14 Dates II
A first list of datings by our laboratory was published in 1957 (Bella and Cortesi, 1957). The measurements were performed with a solid Carbon counter (Ballario et al. , 1955). Between the beginning of 1958 and December 1961 laboratory apparatus was completely renewed and proportional gas-counters were introduced. At present four counters are available. Measurements are carried out with CO 2 at 3 atm pressure
