  • Comparison of Independent Δ 14 CO 2 Records at Point Barrow, Alaska

    Open Access•H D Graven, X Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Two independent programs have collected and analyzed atmospheric CO 2 samples from Point Barrow, Alaska, for radiocarbon content (Δ 14 C) over the period 2003–2007. In one program, flask collection, stable isotope analysis, and CO 2 extraction are performed by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography's CO 2 Program and CO 2 is graphitized and measured by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. In the other pr…

  • NotCal04—Comparison/Calibration 14 C Records 26–50 Cal Kyr BP

    Open Access•J Van Der Plicht, J W Beck et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 36•References: 26

The radiocarbon calibration curve IntCal04 extends back to 26 cal kyr B P. While several high-resolution records exist beyond this limit, these data sets exhibit discrepancies of up to several millennia. As a result, no calibration curve for the time range 26–50 cal kyr BP can be recommended as yet, but in this paper the IntCal04 working group compares the available data sets and offers a discussion of the information that they hold

  • Changes of Subtropical North Pacific Radiocarbon and Correlation with Climate Variability

    Open Access•Ellen R M Druffel, S Griffin et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Cited by: 7•References: 38

We show that high-precision radiocarbon (Δ 14 C) measurements from annual bands of a Hawaiian surface coral decreased by 7‰ from AD 1893 to 1952. This decrease is coincident with the Suess Effect, which is mostly due to the dilution of natural levels of 14 C by 14 C-free fossil fuel CO 2 . This decrease is equal to that expected in surface waters of the subtropical gyres, and indicates that the surface waters of the North Pacific were in steady s…
