  • Analysis of Radiocarbon Distribution in the Eutrophic Lake Fish Assemblage Using Stable C, N, S Isotopes

Open Access•Rūta Barisevičiūtė, Vytautas Rakauskas et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2023•References: 37

The carbon isotope distribution and its relationship with stable N and S isotope ratio values were investigated within a fish assemblage from the shallow lake Tapeliai, which is constantly affected by inflows of 14 C depleted water from the surrounding watershed mires. The “conventional” radiocarbon age within the fish from this lake varied from 119 to 693 yr. The 14 C/ 12 C and δ 13 C values correlated significantly (r=0.85 p 14 C/ 12 C values a…

  • Assessment of the Contamination by 14 C Airborne Releases in the Vicinity of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant

Open Access•Algirdas Pabedinskas, Evaldas Maceika et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 22

A radiocarbon ( 14 C) activity analysis in the tree rings around Ignalina nuclear power plant (INPP) has been carried out with the aim to test the hypothesis to use 14 C tree-ring analysis data as a tool for the reconstruction of gaseous releases from NPP to the environment. The INPP has been in decommissioning state since the end of 2009. Tree-ring samples for 14 C analysis were collected 7 yr after final power unit shutdown from the INPP vicini…

  • Tracing Carbon Isotope Variations in Lake Sediments Caused by Environmental Factors During the Past Century

Open Access•Rūta Barisevičiūtė, Evaldas Maceika et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 64

In this study, we examined how land use and urbanization changes in adjacent areas affected biological productivity and carbon cycling in a lake ecosystem over 100 years and how these changes are reflected in carbon isotope variations. We performed radiocarbon ( 14 C) activity and stable carbon isotope ratio analysis in two organic fractions: humin and humic acids of lake sediment. Additionally, we performed pigment and diatom analysis and determ…

  • Investigation of Impurities of RBMK Graphite by Different Methods

Open Access•Rita Plukienė, Elena Lagzdina et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2018•References: 13

Samples of graphite from a RBMK-1500 reactor at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant from different construction elements (stack, sleeve, and bushing) were analyzed by the instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) method (LVR-15 experimental reactor of the Research Centre Řež, Ltd.) using the prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) method (Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum) and with an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) (CPST, Lit…

  • Annual Variations of 14 C Concentration in the Tree Rings in the Vicinity of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant

Open Access•Žilvinas Ežerinskis, Justina Šapolaitė et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2018•Cited by: 9•References: 27

In this paper we analyze the radiocarbon ( 14 C) concentration changes over the whole operational period of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) including the post-shutdown decommissioning. Environmental samples from the vicinity of the INPP and a rural area as background of pine tree rings were analyzed with the single stage accelerator mass spectrometer (SSAMS). The analysis shows the local influence of the INPP from 3 to 7 pMC. The whole ti…
