Effect of topographic position on differential biotic and lithological responses to the late glacial–early Holocene climatic oscillations recorded in sediments of two landslide fens (the Outer Western…
Landslide fens are characteristic landforms of the Beskid Makowski Mountains area in the Outer Western Carpathians (S Poland) and contain rarely occurring late glacial and Holocene organic-minerogenic sedimentary sequences. Multi-proxy study (radiocarbon dating, loss on ignition, plant macrofossil and pollen analyses) was applied to verify whether the late glacial-early Holocene climatic and paleoenvironmental changes were recorded differently be…
Late Glacial and Holocene palaeoenvironmental changes recorded in landslide fens deposits in the Polish Outer Western Carpathians (Southern Poland)
Bog Pine and Deciduous Trees Chronologies Related to Peat Sequences Stratigraphy of the Podemszczyzna Peatland (Sandomierz Basin, Southeastern Poland)
The Podemszczyzna peatland (Sandomierz Basin, SE Poland) is a place of peat exploitation for balneological purposes. The thickness of organic sediments (minerogenic peat) reaches 4.0 m, while the beginning of peat accumulation was dated using the radiocarbon method ( 14 C) at 13,517–13,156 cal BP. During the peat exploitation numerous fragments of subfossil wood (of various species) were excavated and, based on dendrochronological analyzes and 14…
Towards the Understanding of the Present-Day Human Impact on Peatland Deposits Formed Since the Late Glacial: A “Retrospective” Age–depth Model of the Grel Raised Bog (Polish Inner Carpathians)
During the last 60 years, the thickness of the Grel peatland deposits (Polish Inner Carpathians), was decreased twice: from about 7.4 m in 1962, to 3.9 m in 2019. Pollen analyses of peat deposits performed in 1962 (Koperowa 1962) and 2019 (this study) showed that the peatland deposits have accumulated since the Oldest Dryas Stadial up to the present day. Comparative analysis of both palynological profiles was carried out, which exhibits a high co…
Neoholocene palaeoenvironmental changes in the Southern Roztocze region (SE Poland): The Kobyle Jezioro raised bog case study
Environmental influence on forest development and decline in the Warta River valley (Central Poland) during the Late Weichselian
