  • Δ14C and δ13C in Annual Tree-Ring Samples from Sequoiadendron Giganteum, AD 998–1510

    Open Access•C J Eastoe, C S Tucek et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 52

Time series of annual Δ 14 C and δ 13 C in tree rings of Sequoiadendron giganteum , AD 998–1510, are similar in form. The Δ 14 C series completes, with data of Stuiver and Braziunas (1993), a 957-yr time-series. Discrete Fourier transformation of detrended Δ 14 C reveals periods of 126, 91, 56, 17.6, 13.6, 10.4, and 7.1 yr. Non-random differences exist between decadal averages of the Sequoiadendron Δ 14 C data and data of Stuiver and Becker (1993…

  • Early-Holocene to present palaeoenvironmental shifts and short climate events from the tropical wetland and lake sediments, Kukkal Lake, Southern India

    Open Access•Vijayaraj Rajmanickam, Hema Achyuthan et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 9

The Kukkal basin, Tamil Nadu, India, receives most of its rain from the southwest monsoon (SWM). A sediment core from Kukkal Lake preserves a continuous sediment record from the early-Holocene to present (9000 yr BP to present). The present lake is situated at an elevation of ~1887 m a.s.l., in a small basin that appears to have alternated between a and wetland depositional environment. Climate proxies, including sediment texture, total organic c…

  • Groundwater Depletion Beneath Downtown Tucson, Arizona

    Open Access•C J Eastoe, Ailiang Gu•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Water…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Beginning with the foundation date of Spanish Tucson in 1775 and continuing through the 1890s, shallow groundwater and related features, including a perched aquifer, stream‐bed springs and a short perennial reach in the Santa Cruz River, progressively disappeared from the Downtown Tucson area. The 20th‐Century city grew rapidly, and increasing groundwater withdrawals caused large declines in the regional aquifer of Tucson basin, leaving a second …

  • The 14 C Content of Lithium Metal Used in Benzene Synthesis

    Open Access•C J Eastoe, Austin Long et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1997•References: 1

The lithium reagent used in the synthesis of benzene for 14 C dating contributes insignificant 14 C in high-precision measurements on 7 g benzene samples. Blank experiments on three different batches of lithium yielded small amounts of carbon, most of which probably originated as “memory” in the reaction vessel

  • Secular Variation of Δ 14 C During the Medieval Solar Maximum

    Open Access•P E Damon, C J Eastoe et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1997•References: 12

The Earth is within the Contemporaneous Solar Maximum (CSM), analogous to the Medieval Solar Maximum (MSM). If this analogy is valid, solar activity will continue to increase well into the 21st century. We have completed 75 single-ring and 10 double-ring measurements from ad 1065 to ad 1150 to obtain information about solar activity during this postulated analog to solar activity during the MSM. δ 14 C decreases steadily during the period ad 1065…

  • Intercomparison of High-Precision 14 C Measurements at the University of Arizona and the Queen's University of Belfast Radiocarbon Laboratories

    Open Access•R M Kalin, F G Mccormac et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1995•Cited by: 6•References: 15

High-precision measurements were completed concurrently at the University of Arizona and the Queen's University of Belfast on blind samples of Irish oak originally measured for the 1986 radiocarbon calibration curve. Subsequent single-year Sequoiadendron results were decadally averaged and compared with published results on decadal Douglas-fir samples. The results of these intercomparisons show that the Arizona high-precision results compare favo…
