  • Early Paleogene climate and productivity of the Eastern Equatorial Atlantic, off the western coast of Ghana

    Open Access•A B Arkaah, M Kaminski et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2006

  • Performance of Models for Radiocarbon Dating of Groundwater

    Open Access•D Gallagher, E J McGee et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2000•References: 8

Appropriate management strategies are essential for the protection and maintenance of groundwater resources. It is therefore important that aquifers are understood in terms of hydraulics, recharge, and yield potential, and that the vulnerability of aquifers to surface pollution is evaluated. A range of aquifer types were examined in this study, and water samples were analyzed for the radiocarbon content of the total dissolved inorganic carbon (TD…

  • Secular Variation of Δ 14 C During the Medieval Solar Maximum

    Open Access•P E Damon, C J Eastoe et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1997•References: 12

The Earth is within the Contemporaneous Solar Maximum (CSM), analogous to the Medieval Solar Maximum (MSM). If this analogy is valid, solar activity will continue to increase well into the 21st century. We have completed 75 single-ring and 10 double-ring measurements from ad 1065 to ad 1150 to obtain information about solar activity during this postulated analog to solar activity during the MSM. δ 14 C decreases steadily during the period ad 1065…

  • Location-Dependent Differences in the 14 C Content of Wood

    Open Access•F G Mccormac, M G L Baillie et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1995•Cited by: 25•References: 24

The long 14 C chronologies currently used as calibration curves combine results from wood that grew in the western United States, the British Isles and Germany. Although these results show few significant differences in the 14 C content of contemporaneous wood when averaged over the length of the chronology ( i.e. , the means of overlapping sections of chronology are the same), closer examination shows considerable variability. Separating the sec…

  • Intercomparison of High-Precision 14 C Measurements at the University of Arizona and the Queen's University of Belfast Radiocarbon Laboratories

    Open Access•R M Kalin, F G Mccormac et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1995•Cited by: 6•References: 15

High-precision measurements were completed concurrently at the University of Arizona and the Queen's University of Belfast on blind samples of Irish oak originally measured for the 1986 radiocarbon calibration curve. Subsequent single-year Sequoiadendron results were decadally averaged and compared with published results on decadal Douglas-fir samples. The results of these intercomparisons show that the Arizona high-precision results compare favo…
