  • Variation of 14 C in Japanese Tree Rings Related to the Fukushima Nuclear Accident

Open Access•Tamás Vargas, László Palcsu et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•References: 28

Radiocarbon ( 14 C) analysis was performed on Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) tree rings from Koriyama, Fukushima prefecture. Our primary aim was to detect any 14 C release from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident on 11 March 2011. We also completed and assessed the 14 C level in Japanese tree rings for the period of 1990–2014 because of the lack of environmental 14 C results in the Japanese island that time. For this reason…

  • Radionuclides in Ancient Relics Obtained from the Matsusaki Site and the Hirohata Shellmound on the Pacific Coast of Japan

Open Access•Tomoko Ohta, Yasunori Mahara et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•References: 11

We compared 2 archaeological relics of different preservation environments, white substances adhering to a vessel from the Matsusaki site and to earthenware from Hirohata, by measuring their environmental radioactivity, 14 C, 228 Ra/ 226 Ra, 234 U/ 238 U, and 87 Sr/ 86 Sr, and major element contents (Ca, Sr, Mg, Fe, and Mn). The results showed that the 2 materials were somewhat different and also reflected differences in their preservation enviro…
