From the 14th International Radiocarbon Conference held in Tucson, AZ, May 20-24, 1991

  • Abstracts of the 14th International Radiocarbon Conference

    Open Access•Osmo Aikaa, P Mantynen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1991•Cited by: 2•References: 2

Experiments were started in 1984 at the Geological Survey of Finland (GSF) with a new 14C dating system that consists of a passive shield of 90-year-old iron, a liquid-scintillation anticoincidence guard and three CO2 proportional counters of conventional size. The counting room is an air- conditioned Faraday cage constructed of limestone concrete

  • University of Rome Radiocarbon Dates XVII

Open Access•Marisa Alessio, Lucia Allegri et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1991•References: 10

This list includes dates from Italy, Libyan Sahara, Niger and the Dahlak Islands, obtained from 1976 to 1980, using the benzene scintillation method. Chemical processing from sample to benzene follows procedures of Alessio et al (1978a). Standard pretreatment for wood and charcoal included boiling with 5–10% HCL

  • C Tephrochronology With Different Fractions of Paleosol Humic Matter at Procida Island, Italy

Marisa Alessio, Lucia Allegri et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1989•Cited by: 1

14 C apparent ages along with δ 13 C values for three different fractions of humic matter (HM) isolated from a suite of four paleosols (PAs) interbedded within tephra are reported. The dated HM fractions were: 1) HA, the easily released humic acids; 2) HA tot , the bulk of humic acids; 3) RES, the insoluble HM. The 14 C sequence dated from 13,000–25,000 BP, in agreement with stratigraphy and previous data. Age differences up to 2540±430 were stat…
