  • A Radiocarbon Age Calculation Program for Windows

    Open Access•D Gallagher, E J McGee et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2002•References: 1

The management of counting files, the calculation of radiocarbon age, and the creation and maintenance of databases for storage and retrieval of laboratory data are time-consuming and exacting tasks. These routine functions are essential to the successful operation of all 14 C dating laboratories. However, since the number of 14 C dating laboratories worldwide is rather limited, it is unlikely that a commercial software company will produce a pro…

  • A Recent History of 14 C, 137 Cs, 210 Pb, and 241 Am Accumulation at Two Irish Peat Bog Sites

    Open Access•D Gallagher, E J McGee et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Cited by: 2•References: 15

Data on radiocarbon ( 14 C), 137 Cs, 210 Pb, and 241 Am levels in an ombrotrophic peat sequence from a montane site on the east coast of Ireland are compared with data from a similar sequence at an Atlantic peatland site on the west coast. The 14 C profiles from the west and east coasts show a broadly similar pattern. Levels increase from 100 pMC or less in the deepest horizons examined, to peak values at the west and east coast sites of 117 ± 0.…

  • Performance of Models for Radiocarbon Dating of Groundwater

    Open Access•D Gallagher, E J McGee et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2000•References: 8

Appropriate management strategies are essential for the protection and maintenance of groundwater resources. It is therefore important that aquifers are understood in terms of hydraulics, recharge, and yield potential, and that the vulnerability of aquifers to surface pollution is evaluated. A range of aquifer types were examined in this study, and water samples were analyzed for the radiocarbon content of the total dissolved inorganic carbon (TD…

  • C Dating of a Neolithic Field System at Céide Fields, County Mayo, Ireland

    Open Access•Seamas Caulfield, R G O'Donnell et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1997•Cited by: 9•References: 8

Céide Fields is a 12 km 2 Neolithic field system in North Mayo in the west of Ireland. The fields, enclosed by an integrated system of stone walls, have been preserved intact by a cover of blanket bog that is >4 m deep in places. At many locations within this blanket bog the stumps of ancient pines ( Pinus sylvestris ) are found in situ. The pine roots in most cases are either on the surface of the mineral soil under the peat or at an intermediat…
