  • Pollen productivity estimates of key European plant taxa for quantitative reconstruction of past vegetation

Open Access•A Broström, Anne Birgitta Nielsen et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2008

  • The impact of tourism and reindeer herding on forest vegetation at Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland

    Open Access•Satu Räsänen, Cynthia A Froyd et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2007•Citada por: 9•Referências: 5

A high-resolution peat profile from the vicinity of Saariselkä (68°25.24'N, 27°25.19'E), a large tourist centre in northern Finnish Lapland, was sampled continuously at near annual resolution to a depth of 22 cm in order to interpret the changes in pollen assemblages and vegetation resulting from human interference and reindeer herding. Fifteen AMS dates were wiggle-matched with the atmospheric 14 C calibration curve. The resulting age—depth mode…

  • Radiocarbon Dating of Modern Peat Profiles

    Open Access•Tomasz Goslar, W O van der Knaap et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2005•Citada por: 9•Referências: 17

We present studies of 9 modern (up to 400-yr-old) peat sections from Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Finland. Precise radiocarbon dating of modern samples is possible due to the large bomb peak of atmospheric 14 C concentration in 1963 and the following rapid decline in the 14 C level. All the analyzed 14 C profiles appeared concordant with the shape of the bomb peak of atmospheric 14 C concentration, integrated over some time interval…
