The Würmian Late-Glacial and early-Holocene vegetation and environment of Gourds des Aillères in the Monts du Forez (Massif Central, France) based on pollen and macrofossil evidence
Holocene vegetation succession and forest history in the upper Monts du Forez, Massif Central, France
Living on the Edge? Transformation of a Marginal Pleistocene Landscape Into a Settlement Area in the Northeastern Part of the Netherlands
This paper will examine settlement location during the Iron Age in the northeast part of the Netherlands, an area shaped by Pleistocene geology. In recent years, a number of Late Iron Age/Early Roman settlements situated on the low lying slopes of sand ridges and nearby stream ridges revealed traces of an earlier Iron Age occupation. Palynological data revealed that this part of the landscape was used by humans before it was transformed into an a…
The Younger Dryas and Preboreal landscape in the Moervaart area (northwestern Belgium) and the apparent decrease in human occupation
Early Holocene environmental change and the presence of Mesolithic people in the Tungelroyse Beek valley near Mildert, the Netherlands
An archaeological excavation in the Tungelroyse Beek valley revealed the remains of two red deer specimens (Cervus elaphus) of Early Mesolithic age that possibly were the victims of hunter-gatherers. The find of animal remains of this age is unique in the Netherlands. In this respect, a sediment core taken close to the remains was investigated, i.e. to reconstruct the vegetation and landscape development of the site and to find more evidence for …
The reconstruction of a buried Maas river landscape near Lomm (Limburg, The Netherlands), using a multi-disciplinary approach; geomorphology, vegetation and human habitation
Abrupt climatic events during Oxygen Isotope Stage 3 recorded in terrestrial sediments in the Netherlands: A multi-proxy approach
Environmental changes, groundwater-level fluctuations and small-scale vegetation patterns during the Lateglacial at Rieme, northwestern Belgium
The influence of environmental changes on local and regional vegetation patterns at Rieme (NW Belgium): Implications for Final Palaeolithic habitation
Absolute Dating ( 14 C and OSL) of the Formation of Coversand Ridges Occupied by Prehistoric Hunter-Gatherers in NW Belgium
Based on radiocarbon and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) results obtained in the last 5 yr, this paper discusses the absolute chronology of the formation of one of the largest sand dunes within NW Belgium, the Great Ridge of Maldegem-Stekene. Multiproxy analysis of 6 sedimentary sequences points to a complex formation history covering the entire Late Glacial. Dry phases, characterized by eolian deflation and sedimentation, alternated with…
Early Holocene environmental change, the presence and disappearance of early Mesolithic habitation near Zutphen (The Netherlands)
Late Glacial and early Holocene environment in the middle Lahn river valley (Hessen, central-west Germany) and the local impact of early Mesolithic people?pollen and macrofossil evidence
Environmental change and fluvial activity during the Younger Dryas in central Germany
Local Impact of Palaeolithic Man on the Environment During the End of the Last Glacial in the Netherlands
