  • Coal and Cremation at the Tschudi Burn, Chan Chan, Northern Peru

    Open Access•William E Brooks, César A Gálvez Mora et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2008•References: 17

Analyses of a 20–30 cm thick, completely combusted ash at the 25 × 70 m Tschudi burn at Chan Chan, northern Perú, contain 52–55 wt% SiO 2 , 180–210 ppm zirconium and are consistent with coal ash. Soil geochemistry across the burn showed elevated calcium and phosphorus content, possible evidence for reported human cremation. A calcined, 5 g, 4.5 cm skull fragment recovered from the burn was confirmed as human by protein radioimmunoassay (pRIA). X‐…

  • The use of an improved pRIA technique in the identification of protein residues

    Open Access•Joshua D Reuther, Jerold M Lowenstein et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2005•Cited by: 2•References: 18

  • Radon Elimination During Benzene Preparation for Radiocarbon Dating by Liquid Scintillation Spectrometry

Darden Hood, Ronald Hatfield et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1989•Cited by: 3

Radon gas is a serious contaminant in radiocarbon dating by radiometry. The low specific ionizations associated with the α-particle emitting radon and its β-particle emitting daughters overlap within the 14 C counting window. Elimination of radon is therefore imperative for precise 14 C age determinations. This paper deals with the sources and mechanism of incorporation of radon affecting 14 C dating by liquid scintillation (LS) counting, and rev…

  • University of Miami Radiocarbon Dates XX

Open Access•Sharon Crabtree, Richard Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1981•References: 1

The following radiocarbon dates are a partial list of samples measured for a variety of projects and materials since May 1980. Chemical and counting procedures remain the same as indicated in R, v 20, p 274–282
