  • Disentangling Geomagnetic and Precipitation Signals in an 80-kyr Chinese Loess Record of 10 Be

Open Access•Weijian Zhou, Alfred Priller et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 40

The cosmogenic radionuclide 10 Be is produced by cosmic-ray spallation in Earth's atmosphere. Its production rate is regulated by the geomagnetic field intensity, so that its accumulation rate in aeolian sediments can, in principle, be used to derive high-resolution records of geomagnetic field changes. However, 10 Be atmospheric fallout rate also varies locally depending on rainfall rate. The accumulation rate of 10 Be in sediments is further co…

  • The 3MV Multi-Element AMS in Xi'an, China

Open Access•Weijian Zhou, Xiaolei Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2006•Cited by: 15•References: 12

    A 3MV multi-element accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS) has been installed in Xi'an, China, and preliminary tests have been completed. The results of both background and precision tests for 4 nuclides are 3.1 × 10 –16 , 0.2% ( 14 C); 1.8 × 10 –14 , 1.4% ( 10 Be); 2.3 × 10 –15 , 1.14% ( 26 Al); and 2.0 × 10 –14 , 1.75% ( 129 I). The unique features of this facility are the newly developed ion source accepting solid and CO 2 samples; the specially …

  • Environmental and Climatic Change as Recorded in Geological Sediments from the Arid to Semi-Arid Zone of China

Open Access•Weijian Zhou, Wu Zhengkun et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 13

Stratigraphic investigations together with climatic proxy data measurements and reliable radiocarbon dating show a history of fluctuations of dry and wet environmental conditions in the arid to semi-arid zone of northern China since the late Pleistocene. Based on these data, we are able to reconstruct shifts of the desert margin in two period extremes, the last glacial maximum (21–15 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (9–5 ka). We have compared the pre…
