  • Revised stratigraphy of Holocene tephras on Ulleung Island, South Korea, and possible correlatives for the U-Oki tephra

  • AMS Radiocarbon Dating of Holocene Tephra Layers on Ulleung Island, South Korea

Open Access•Mitsuru Okuno, Miki Shiihara et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 16

Ulleung Island, a large stratovolcano, is located in the western part of the Japan Sea (East Sea), 130 km off the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. The Ulleung-Oki (U-Oki) is a widely distributed tephra in and around the Japan Sea, and has an age of 10.7 cal ka BP obtained from the Lake Suigetsu data set (central Japan). Of the 7 tephra layers (U-7 to -1) on the island, the pumiceous U-4, U-3, and U-2 tephra layers are petrochemically and pe…

  • Holocene influx of the Tsushima Current into the Japan Sea signalled by spatial and temporal changes in Neogloboquadrina incompta distribution

    Open Access•Hanako Domitsu, Motoyoshi Oda•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2008•Cited by: 1

Neogloboquadrina incompta is an optimal marker of the transitional water formed by mixing of the warm Tsushima Current with cold waters of the Japan Sea. Spatial and temporal changes in N. incompta distribution have been analysed to reconstruct the timing and processes by which modern surface-water conditions were established in the Japan Sea as a function of postglacial influx of the Tsushima Current resulting from rising sea levels. The spatiot…
