  • Using a Robust Moderated Mediation Approach to Understand Associations Between Classroom Quality, Mindset Beliefs, Engagement, and Student Achievement in Math and Science

Open Access•Ming-Te Wang, Christina L Scanlon et al.•ARTICLE•American Educational Research…•2026

Using a robust moderated mediation approach with a socioeconomically diverse sample of 1,532 adolescents(M age = 14.61 years; 51% female; 68% White, 28% Black; 48% economically disadvantaged), this study tested whether growth mindset and behavioral engagement mediated the link between classroom quality and math and science achievement and whether effects varied by race or socioeconomic status. Student engagement, but not mindset, significantly me…

  • How growth mindset shapes math achievement

Open Access•Tetsuya Yamada, Xu Qin et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2026

Although the positive role of a growth mindset in adolescent math learning is widely recognized, little is known about the moderating role of classroom practices, the mediating role of engagement, or developmental patterns in these relations. One thousand three hundred thirty adolescents in Grades 8, 10, and 12 attending 14 U.S. urban public schools ( M age = 15.50, SD age = 1.56; 54% female; 69% White, 26% Black; 49% low-income) participated in …

  • Chinese and Japanese Public Opinion

Mindy L Kotler, Naotaka Sugawara et al.•ARTICLE•Asian perspective•2007

Japanese and Chinese hold strikingly similar opinions of each other—both are negative. Since the normalization of Japan’s postwar relations with China in 1978, opinion surveys document a clear deterioration of goodwill after nearly two decades of relatively good relations. This trend has accelerated over the past ten years. Most noticeable is how much the decline of trust coincides with a rise of internal socio-economic anxieties in both countrie…

  • AMS 14 C Dating of Iron Artifacts

Open Access•Hiroki Enami, Toshio Nakamura et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 4•References: 13

We have developed a prototype carbon extraction system for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating of archaeological iron remains by combusting them with a RF induction furnace. We have also successfully tested and used a method of carbon extraction from iron using a CuCl 2 solution. Modifications to our carbon extraction systems and methods provide us acceptable performances; carbon yield is normally around 80% and the 14 C backgr…
