  • Regional climate change from peat stratigraphy for the mid- to late Holocene in central Ireland

    Open Access•P G Langdon, A G Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Tephrochronology and absolute centennial scale synchronisation of European and Greenland records for the last glacial to interglacial transition

    Open Access•C S Lane, S P E Blockley et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2011

  • Late Holocene vegetation and palaeoenvironmental history of the Dunadd area, Argyll, Scotland

    Open Access•Rupert A Housley, Simon Blockley et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2009•Cited by: 2•References: 9

  • Calibration Commentary

    Open Access•S P E Blockley, R A Housley•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2009•References: 24

Radiocarbon is by far and away the most widely used dating tool in the Late Quaternary. Hundreds of key papers rely on the method to provide absolute and relative chronological information on important topics, including the late evolution of our own species (e.g. Higham et al. 2006a) and the timing and nature of abrupt climatic changes during the last glaciation (Lowe et al. 2001). Calibration of 14 C determinations is an essential part of the da…

  • Rapid human response to Late Glacial climate change

    Open Access•Simon Blockley, S P E Blockley et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2000•Cited by: 3•References: 4

In their reply to our recent paper (Blockley et al.2000), Housley et ~ l(2.0 00) make four substantialpoints. Firstly, they assert that our critique oftheir two-stage re-colonization model rests solelyupon radiocarbon calibration. Secondly, and consequently, they point to problems with Late Glacialcalibration curves. Thirdly, they argue thatradiocarbon calibration should be advanced onlyfor sound archaeological reasons. Finally, theystate that our…

  • Radiocarbon calibration and Late Glacial occupation in northwest Europe

    Open Access•P E Blockley, Simon Blockley et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2000•Cited by: 7•References: 6

Various methods of analysing the dating of the late Glacial suggest various interpretations. Here, in answer to a paper from 1997, radiocarbon dates are calibrated and used to reconsider the dating of this contentious period
