  • Contrasting paired benthic and planktonic foraminifera radiocarbon ages from Bermuda Rise ODP Site 1063 during Heinrich Stadials 1 and 2

Open Access•Jörg Lippold, Jens Fohlmeister et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•References: 33

We report 27 planktonic and 21 benthic radiocarbon ages from the subtropical marine sediment core ODP Site 1063 (Bermuda Rise) for the time range between 30 and 14 ka before present. Despite low abundances of benthic specimens, it was possible to measure radiocarbon ages down to ∼10 μg carbon using a MICADAS and the gas ion source developed at ETH Zurich. Based on a tentative radiocarbon–independent age-model we found that the radiocarbon reservo…

  • Analysis of the Degree of Threat to Railway Infrastructure by Falling Tree Vegetation

Open Access•Michal Kucera, Zdena Dobešová•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2021

The article presents a method for determining and evaluating the threat to railway infrastructure from falling trees. The main objective was to identify the degree of threat according to three parameters: the height of tree stands, species composition, and vegetation health. Identification of the threat to individual railway sections would allow the creation of measures that could increase operational safety. Evaluation should be carried out at r…

  • Upper water mass variability in the Anegada–Jungfern Passage, NE Caribbean, during the last 11,100 cal. yr

    Open Access•Andrea Fischel, Marit-Solveig Seidenkrantz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•References: 6

Using qualitative and quantitative analyses of planktonic foraminifera assemblages, δ 18 O measurements, Mg/Ca–temperature relationship ( Globigerinoides ruber pink sensu stricto) data and sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) derived from artificial neural network (ANN) transfer functions, a reconstruction was made of upper water mass variability in the Anegada–Jungfern Passage (AJP), northeastern Caribbean Sea, over the last c. 11,100 years. Our reco…

  • Decadal-resolution record of winter monsoon intensity over the last two millennia from planktic foraminiferal assemblages in the northeastern Arabian Sea

    Open Access•Philipp Munz, Philipp M Munz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 9

The Indian monsoon system is an important climate feature of the northern Indian Ocean. Small variations of the wind and precipitation patterns have fundamental influence on the societal, agricultural, and economic development of India and its neighboring countries. To understand current trends, sensitivity to forcing, or natural variation, records beyond the instrumental period are needed. However, high-resolution archives of past winter monsoon…

  • Vigilantism during democratic transition

    Michal Kucera, Miroslav Mareš•ARTICLE•Policing & Society•2013•Cited by: 5•References: 6

This article deals with vigilantism occurring in regimes undergoing transitions from non-democracy to democracy. It analyses the strategic use of vigilantism, aiming to identify the basic vigilantist strategies. The article identifies five strategies ranging from prevention initiatives organised by citizens to the outsourcing of vigilantism to informal security agencies. The extreme right also employs vigilantism to its own specific ends

  • Constrains on sea surface temperature reconstructions of the Last Glacial Maximum ocean and their comparison with climate model hindcasts

    Open Access•Michal Kucera•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012
