  • A Microeconomic Reconstruction of Marx's Labour Market Theory

    Gene E Mumy•ARTICLE•Economica•1990

The purpose of this paper is to show that there is a more consistent implied microeconomic model of wage and hours determination in Marx's CAPITAL than is usually recognized. The argument is that, rather than merely assuming wages equal to an exogenously given value of labor-power, Marx's labor market model actually describes how the market evolves to a lower-bound frontier of wages as a function of hours worked. This frontier is the real-wage eq…

  • Silences In Ricardo

    Gene E Mumy•ARTICLE•Review of Social Economy•1986•Cited by: 1•References: 2

To succeeding generations of economists, perhaps the best known part, at least by hearsay, of David Ricardo's Principles of Political Economy and Taxation has been Chapter VII, On Foreign Trade. [Sraffa] This chapter contains Ricardo's presentation of the doctrine of comparative advantage as the basis of international specialization under a regime of free trade. • The Economics of Local Government Pensions and Pension Funding

    Gene E Mumy•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•1978•Cited by: 4•References: 1

This paper presents a simple analytical model of optimum pension size and funding practices for a local government. The criterion used is that the attainable frontier of labor-service purchases, for two periods, should be pushed out as far as possible given that there is a fixed endowment of tax revenues in each period. After the characteristics of the frontier are developed, the relationship between optimizing decisions and pension-funding pract…
