  • Individual and organizational consequences of employee-determined flexibility in shift schedules of police patrols

Bernd Bürger, Friedhelm Nachreiner•ARTICLE•Police Practice and Research•2018

This paper determines the impacts of employee-determined flexibility (self-rostering) within police patrol shiftwork systems. The study is based on a cross sectional online survey with police patrol officers from one state of the Federal Republic of Germany (n = 927). The results show that pure employee-determined flexibility on the one hand leads to a good compatibility of shiftwork with social life (individual consequences). On the other hand, …

  • Health and psychosocial effects of flexible working hours

Open Access•Daniela Janssen, Friedhelm Nachreiner•ARTICLE•Revista de Saúde Pública•2004•Citada por: 2

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether any impairments in health and social lives can be found under different kinds of flexible working hours, and whether such effects are related to specific characteristics of these working hours. METHODS: Two studies - a company based survey (N=660) and an internet survey (N=528) - have been conducted. The first one was a questionnaire study (paper and pencil) on employees working under some 'typical' kinds of differen…

OBJECTIVE: To extend an existing computer programme for the evaluation and design of shift schedules (BASS 3) by integrating workload as well as economic aspects. METHODS: The redesigned prototype BASS 4 includes a new module with a suitable and easily applicable screening method (EBA) for the assessment of the intensity of physical, emotional and cognitive workload components and their temporal patterns. Specified criterion functions based on th…

  • Diversity and equity

    Open Access•Friedhelm Nachreiner•ARTICLE•Revista de Saúde Pública•2004•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

In the context of the design of working hours inequities in health associated with biological, psychological, social, and socioeconomic diversities can be observed. The paper first tries to set up a frame of reference for a discussion of this topic, relating to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and some recent discussions on equity in health and then goes into some factors that produce inequities in health in the context of the design of …

  • The job demands-resources model of burnout.

Evangelia Demerouti, Arnold B Bakker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Psychology•2001

The job demands-resources (JD-R) model proposes that working conditions can be categorized into 2 broad categories, job demands and job resources. that are differentially related to specific outcomes. A series of LISREL analyses using self-reports as well as observer ratings of the working conditions provided strong evidence for the JD-R model: Job demands are primarily related to the exhaustion component of burnout, whereas (lack of) job resourc…

  • A model of burnout and life satisfaction amongst nurses

Open Access•Evangelia Demerouti, Arnold B Bakker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Advanced Nursing•2000

A model of burnout and life satisfaction amongst nurses This study, among 109 German nurses, tested a theoretically derived model of burnout and overall life satisfaction. The model discriminates between two conceptually different categories of working conditions, namely job demands and job resources. It was hypothesized that: (1) job demands, such as demanding contacts with patients and time pressure, are most predictive of exhaustion; (2) job r…
