Open Access•Kenzie Latham-Mintus, Monier Williams et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Health•2026

This research examined whether educational polygenic scores were associated with physical limitations among older adults with European or African ancestry. In the European ancestry sample, we found that education polygenic scores were significantly associated with physical limitations, net of age, sex, and current socioeconomic status. In the African ancestry sample, education polygenic scores were not associated with physical limitations in any …

  • Time in Hegel's Philosophy

    Open Access•M E Williams, Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1970

The significance of time for Hegel's thought is still overlooked. Indeed it is generally maintained that time plays no fundamental role in Hegel's philosophy. Some of Hegel's interpreters, including McTaggart and Bradley, have gone so far as to claim that time is in a fundamental sense unreal for Hegel; others more recently have endeavoured to show that time is in some sense real

  • How is Metaphysics Possible as a Science

    Open Access•M E Williams, Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1968

Though Kant himself would undoubtedly have thought it a scandal that differing interpretations of his Critique of Pure Reason would continue to be given well into the twentieth century, the fact may be that it is less a scandal than a testament to the richness, depth and enduring vitality of his thought. In any case several major books on the first Critique have appeared within the last few years. D. P. Dryer's Kant's Solution for Verification in…

  • Art. XIX.— The Vaishṇava Religion, with special reference to the Śikshā-patrī of the modern sect called Svāmi-Nārāyaṇa

    Open Access•Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Asiatic…•1882•Citada por: 2

It is a remarkable circumstance that the Queen of Great Britain rules over two hundred millions of people, who though deeply religious, possess a religion which cannot be designated by any one name. Most of the religions of the world, as, for example, Christianity, Muhammadanism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, are called by the names of their founders, though without the sanction of the founders themselves

  • Art. XXIV.— Sanskṛit Text of the Sikshā-Patrī of the Svāmi-Nārāyaṇa Sect

    Open Access•Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Asiatic…•1882

[The text of the Śikshā-patrī of the modern Vaishṇava Sect, called Svāmi-Nārāyaṇa, was lithographed in Samvat 1928 (A.D. 1872) by order of the Heads of the Sect. It has a Gujarātī Commentary by Nityānanda-muni. So far as I know, this is the only version of the text that has yet appeared. It was given to me by the Wartāl Māharāja on the occasion of my first visit to Wartāl in 1875. It is full of mistakes, and in preparing the following edition of …

  • Art. I.— Indian Theistic Reformers

    Open Access•Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Asiatic…•1881

It is a mistake to suppose that the first introduction of Theism into India was due to the founders of the Brāhma Samāj, or modern Theistic Churches of Bengal. Some of the oldest hymns of the Ṛig-veda are decidedly monotheistic, and all the most pronounced forms of Indian pantheism rest on the fundamental doctrine of God's unity. “There is one Being and no second,” or in other words, “Nothing really exists but the one eternal omnipresent Spirit,”…

  • Art. X.— Supplement to the Paper on Indian Theistic Reformers, published in the January Number of this Journal

    Open Access•Monier Williams•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Asiatic…•1881

Since the publication of my paper on Indian Theistic Reformers in the January number of this Journal, I have received the following letter from Mr. Krishna Bihari Sen, brother of Mr. Keshab Chandar Sen
