Enacting generative AI policy in english further education colleges
This paper critically examines how national policies promoting generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) are enacted within English Further Education (FE) colleges between 2023 and 2025, with a focus on vocational and technical education. Drawing on documentary analysis of national policy, regulatory texts and institutional materials, the study is informed by policy enactment theory and a social justice lens. The study identifies a persistent ga…
Postdigital Citizen Science and Humanities
This collective article presents a theoretical kaleidoscope, the multiple lenses of which are used to examine and critique citizen science and humanities in postdigital contexts and from postdigital perspectives. It brings together 19 short theoretical and experiential contributions, organised into six loose groups which explore areas and perspectives including Indigenous and local knowledge, technology, and children and young people as citizen r…

Distance Education under Oppression
This paper draws from both empirical research on an EU-funded project in Palestine and from the lived experiences of Palestinian HE educators. The geopolitical situation is precarious at the best of times in Palestine, where Israel monitors and controls the Palestinians’ right to travel, live and work—even more so if they wish to accomplish these activities abroad—and their access to the internet is never free from surveillance. In these circumst…
Networked Learning in 2021
Introduction (Networked Learning Editorial Collective): Since the turn of this century, much of the world has undergone a tectonic socio-technological change. Computers have left the isolated basements of research institutes and entered people's homes. Network connectivity has advanced from slow and unreliable modems to high-speed broadband. Devices have evolved: from stationary desktop computers to ever-present, always-connected smartphones. The…
Social Myths and Collective Imaginaries
"Western or Eastern, ancient or modern, religious or scientific, myths are strikingly underestimated forces in contemporary society. In our rational, enlightened and supposedly civilized society myths have come to be perceived as the exclusive attribute of so-called pre-modern societies. In Social Myths and Collective Imaginaries, Gérard Bouchard conceptualizes myths as vessels of sacred values that transcend the division between primitive and mo…

Les chevaliers de Saint-Michel 1665-1790
Recent historians of the nobility have tended to underestimate the importance of Orders of Knighthood, which existed in many countries and were a means for rulers to favour selected individuals and reward meritorious service. Most were established during the later Middle Ages, and many continued to flourish at least until the nineteenth century. These Orders are commonly viewed as an ornate superstructure, of interest only to antiquarians or to t…
The Great Peace of Montreal of 1701
In The Great Peace of Montreal of 1701 Gilles Havard brings to life the European and Native players who brought about this major feat of international diplomacy. He highlights the differing interests and strategies of the numerous First Nations involved while giving a dramatic account of the colourful conference. The treaty, Havard argues, was the culmination of the French colonial strategy of Native alliances and adaptation to Native political c…
The Council of Ephesus
It is a striking instance of the wondrous ways of Divine Providence that the city whose past renown circled round its false cult of 'great Diana of the Ephesians' should be the place whence should be proclaimed to the world, and for all time, the Divine Maternity of Mary, παναγíα θεοτόκος, the All-holy Mother of God.The Council of Ephesus, the fifteenth centenary of which occurs this year, is in importance second only to the Council of Nicaea. Th…
