  • An Arctic seal in temperate waters

    Open Access•Pirkko Ukkonen, Kim Aaris‐Sørensen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 21

The ringed seal ( Pusa hispida) is an early immigrant in the Baltic Basin and has since its arrival experienced substantial changes in the climate, salinity and productivity of the Basin. In this paper, we discuss the dispersal and distribution of the ringed seal during different stages of the Baltic Sea in relation to past and ongoing environmental changes. Subfossil ringed seal remains around the Baltic Sea and the Danish Straits were radiocarb…

  • Species-specific responses of Late Quaternary megafauna to climate and humans

    Open Access•Eline D Lorenzen, David Nogués‐bravo et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2011

  • Diversity and dynamics of the mammalian fauna in Denmark throughout the last glacial-interglacial cycle, 115-0 kyr BP

Kim Aaris‐Sørensen, Kim Aaris-Sørensen•CHAPTER•Fossils and Strata Diversity and…•2009

This article presents new data on the changes in diversity and distribution in time and space of the mammalian fauna in Denmark throughout the Weichsel ian glaciation and the Holocene (ca. 115-0 kyr BP). Three different taphonomic pathways are recognized in the fossil assemblages. The oldest bone remains are found redeposited in glacial or glaciofluvial sediments belonging to the repeated advances and retreats of the Weichselian glaciers. The you…

  • Paleoeskimo Dogs of the Eastern Arctic

    Open Access•Darcy F Morey, Kim Aaris‐Sørensen et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2002

Sled or pack dogs have been perceived as an integral part of traditional life in the Eastern Arctic. This perception stems from our knowledge of the lifeway of recent Thule and modern Inuit peoples, among whom dog sledding has often been an important means of transportation. In contrast, the archaeological record of preceding Paleoeskimo peoples indicates that dogs were sparse at most, and probably locally absent for substantial periods. This pat…

  • Small Mammals from Danish Mesolithic Sites

    Kim Aaris‐Sørensen, Kim Aaris-Sørensen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Danish Archaeology•1993•Cited by: 2•References: 1
