  • A decentralized approach to model national and global food and land use systems

    Open Access•Aline Mosnier, Valeria Javalera-Rincon et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

The achievement of several sustainable development goals and the Paris Climate Agreement depends on rapid progress towards sustainable food and land systems in all countries. We have built a flexible, collaborative modeling framework to foster the development of national pathways by local research teams and their integration up to global scale. Local researchers independently customize national models to explore mid-century pathways of the food a…

  • How can diverse national food and land-use priorities be reconciled with global sustainability targets? Lessons from the Fable initiative

    Open Access•Aline Mosnier, Guido Schmidt‐Traub et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2022•Cited by: 3•References: 8

There is an urgent need for countries to transition their national food and land-use systems toward food and nutritional security, climate stability, and environmental integrity. How can countries satisfy their demands while jointly delivering the required transformative change to achieve global sustainability targets? Here, we present a collaborative approach developed with the FABLE—Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land, and Energy—Consortium t…

  • Long-term pathways analysis to assess the feasibility of sustainable land-use and food systems in Mexico

    Open Access•Charlotte E González-Abraham, Cynthia Flores-Santana et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability Science•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Mexico aims to develop highly productive and sustainable food systems that ensure national self-sufficiency. This paper employs an integrated land-use modeling tool—the FABLE Calculator—to estimate the degree of policy ambition required for the country to meet mid-century climate, conservation and production goals in the land-use sector. We generate national-level land-use pathways to mid-century in terms of agricultural production, land use chan…

  • Transnational Ecosystem Services: The Potential of Habitat Conservation for Waterfowl Through Recreational Hunting Activities

    Nadia T Rubio-Cisneros, Nadia T Rubio‐Cisneros et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2014

This article explores transnational ecosystem services in North America, provided by winter habitat for waterfowl in western Mexico coastal lagoons, and the hunting industry supported by these birds in the United States. This article shows that the number of waterfowl harvested in the United States is related to the abundance of waterfowl wintering in Mexico. On average, this flow of ecosystem services annually yields US$ 4.68 million in hunting …

  • The Cartographers of Life: Two Centuries of Mapping the Natural History of Baja California

    Pedro P Garcillán, Charlotte E González-Abraham et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the Southwest•2010•References: 6

The Cartographers of Life: Two Centuries of Mapping the Natural History of Baja California Pedro P. Garcillán, Charlotte E. González Abraham, and Exequiel Ezcurra In 1964, the outstanding biogeographer Leon Croizat published a book entitled Space, Time, Form: The Biological Synthesis. He never visited Baja California, but few places in the world can condense more deeply the powerful metaphor of Croizat's title. Indeed, biogeography has been for c…
