  • The Bengal fan

    Open Access•Léa Fournier, Kelly Fauquembergue et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The eastern levee of the Active Channel in the Bengal fan has been investigated in order to better understand the history of turbidite activity in this channel during the Holocene in the context of Ganges-Brahmaputra ‘source-to-sink’ system. A robust 14 C-based chronostratigraphy provides high temporal resolution for reconstructing sediment accumulation history on the eastern levee of the Active Channel. Integration of this study with previous wo…

  • High frequency environmental changes and deposition processes in a 2 kyr-long sedimentological record from the Cap-Breton canyon (Bay of Biscay)

    Open Access•Yannick Mary, Frédérique Eynaud et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•References: 10

The core MD03-2693 (43°39.258′N; 01°39.805′W; 431 m water depth) was collected on an abandoned meander of the Capbreton Canyon (SE Bay of Biscay), filled over the last millennia by very high sedimentation rates (mean sedimentation rate of 1.2 cm/yr) linked to its specific environmental location and fine-grained clayed sediment decantation from the proximal canyon axis. This archive thus permits to undertake the study of late Holocene regional cli…

  • The impact of African aridity on the isotopic signature of Atlantic deep waters across the Middle Pleistocene Transition

Open Access•Bruno Malaizé, Elsa Jullien et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

A high resolution analysis of benthic foraminifera as well as of aeolian terrigenous proxies extracted from a 37 m-long marine core located off the Mauritanian margin spanning the last ~ 1.2 Ma, documents the possible link between major continental environmental changes with a shift in the isotopic signature of deep waters around 1.0–0.9 Ma, within the so-called Mid-Pleistocene Transition (MPT) time period. The increase in the oxygen isotopic com…

  • The monsoon imprint during the ‘atypical’ MIS 13 as seen through north and equatorial Indian Ocean records

Open Access•T Caley, Bruno Malaizé et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2011

Previous studies have suggested that Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 13, recognized as atypical in many paleoclimate records, is marked by the development of anomalously strong summer monsoons in the northern tropical areas. To test this hypothesis, we performed a multi-proxy study on three marine records from the tropical Indian Ocean in order to reconstruct and analyse changes in the summer Indian monsoon winds and precipitations during MIS 13. Our …

  • Hurricanes and climate in the Caribbean during the past 3700 years BP

    Open Access•Bruno Malaizé, P Bertran et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•Cited by: 6•References: 4

A multiproxy analysis of lacustrine sediments cored in Grand-Case Pond at Saint-Martin, north of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, reveals three distinct climatic periods for the last 3700 years. From 3700 to ~2500 yr cal. BP and from 1150 yr cal. BP to the present, carbonate mud deposition occurred in connection with pond lowstands. These periods were also punctuated by severe drought events, marked by gypsum laminae, and hurricane landfalls, lea…

  • Low-latitude “dusty events” vs. high-latitude “icy Heinrich Events”

Open Access•Elsa Jullien, Francis Grousset et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2007

It has been proposed that tropical events could have participated in the triggering of the classic, high-latitude, iceberg-discharge Heinrich events (HE). We explore low-latitude Heinrich events equivalents at high resolution, in a piston core recovered from the tropical north-western African margin. They are characterized by an increase of total dust, lacustrine diatoms and fibrous lacustrine clay minerals. Thus, low-latitude events clearly refl…
