Pre‐Hispanic gold pieces of an enigmatic archaeological finding in Medellín, Colombia
The study analysed pre‐Hispanic gold objects found within a surprising archaeological finding of a structure that likely served as a funeral pyre in Medellín, Colombia. 14 C analyses of the site's organic materials dated the structure to the fifth century ce . The metal objects were subjected to X‐ray diffraction (XRD), energy‐dispersive X‐ray fluorescence (EDXRF), scanning electron microscopy‐energy dispersive X‐ray (SEM‐EDX), density measuremen…
A case of semi-combusted pregnant female in the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Monte Sirai (Carbonia, Sardinia, Italy)
A Unique Case of Prone Position in the Primary Cremation Tomb 252 of Monte Sirai Necropolis (Carbonia, Sardinia, Italy)
A series of graves belonging to the Phoenician period were investigated after the campaign excavation of 2007 in the Phoenician‐Punic necropolis of Monte Sirai (Carbonia, Sardinia, Italy). One tomb in particular (labelled 252) is presented here because of its uniqueness. Tomb 252 contained the cremated remains of an individual, probably male, and comparison of the excavation records alongside reconstruction of the bone material itself makes clear…
Is X-ray diffraction able to distinguish between animal and human bones
Cremation practices coexisting at the S’Illot des Porros Necropolis during the Second Iron Age in the Balearic Islands (Spain)
A funerary rite study of the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Mount Sirai (Sardinia, Italy)
A recent excavation in the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Mount Sirai, located in the southwestern part of Sardinia, Italy, has brought to light a number of tombs contextually attributed to a period from the early 6th to early 5th century BC, which is simultaneous with the beginning of the Carthago influence in Sardinia. Among the interred burials recently brought to light, the skeletal remains, sometimes of two superposed bodies, are found in a …
An X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) investigation in human and animal fossil bones from Holocene to Middle Triassic
A new calibration of the XRD technique for the study of archaeological burned human remains
Anthropological and physicochemical investigation of the burnt remains of Tomb IX in the 'Sa Figu' hypogeal necropolis (Sassari, Italy) - Early Bronze Age
Excavations carried out in Tomb IX of the hypogeic necropolis of 'Sa Figu', near the village of Ittiri (Sassari, Italy), supplied burnt human bone remains and pottery unambiguously referred to the Early Bronze Age (characterised by the local culture of 'Bonnannaro'). Besides the anthropological study, we have investigated and evaluated the possibility of a funerary cremation practice in Sardinian pre-history, a subject that has previously not bee…
A study by thermal treatment and X-ray powder diffraction on burnt fragmented bones from tombs II, IV and IX belonging to the hypogeic necropolis of “Sa Figu” near Ittiri, Sassari (Sardinia, Italy)
