  • Legislative hurdles to using traditional domestic livestock in rewilding programmes in Europe

    Open Access•F Javier Pérez-Barbería, José Ángel Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 31

Rewilding is a restoration strategy that aims to return anthropogenic ecosystems to a “self-organized” state, by reinstating trophic complexity through disturbance (e.g. predation, herbivory), dispersal and connectivity. In depopulated areas of Europe, lite versions of rewilding, that maintain but minimize the management of rewilding species (e.g. predators, large herbivores) is gaining support. Livestock rewilding (LR) is a form of rewilding-lit…

  • Neanderthals from El Salt (Alcoy, Spain) in the context of the latest Middle Palaeolithic populations from the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula

    Open Access•M D Garralda, Bertila Galván et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2014•Cited by: 33•References: 58

  • Evidence of a Neanderthal-Made Quartz-Based Technology at Navalmaíllo Rockshelter (Pinilla Del Valle, Madrid Region, Spain)

    Belén Márquez, M Mosquera et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anthropological Research•2013•Cited by: 14•References: 25

The present work describes a preliminary study of a primarily quartz-based Mousterian lithic assemblage deposited about 75,000 years ago by Neanderthals in Navalmaíllo rockshelter (Pinilla del Valle, Madrid, Spain). Although archaeological assemblages dominated by quartz are not common in the central Iberian Peninsula, they are more common in peripheral areas such as Catalonia and Galicia. As documented in other European sites, the abundance of q…

  • Promise and pitfalls for characterizing and correlating the zeolitically altered tephra of the Pleistocene Peninj Group, Tanzania

    Open Access•Lindsay J Mchenry, Luis Luque et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2011

The Pleistocene Humbu and Moinik formations of the Peninj Group in northern Tanzania preserve an important archaeological and paleontological record, in addition to a record of local volcanism in the form of tephra and lavas. Samples of the major Humbu and Moinik formations' basaltic and trachytic tephra were collected and characterized using phenocryst composition and both primary and authigenic mineral assemblage, since the volcanic glass was c…
