  • Kepler’s snow: The epistemic playfulness of geometry in seventeenth-century Europe

Stefano Gulizia•ARTICLE•British Journal for the History…•2022

This paper suggests that layered ontology is important within Kepler’s method, and that it developed at least partially in response to a disciplinary and religious crisis. As such, and despite Platonic allegiances, it places him in a longue durée of geometrical constructivism in seventeenth-century Europe. After introducing the pivotal role of Mysterium cosmographicum (1596) and how Kepler’s career may be seen in the context of courtly bricolage,…

  • Francesco Patrizi da Cherso and the anti-Aristotelian tradition: Interpreting the Discussiones Peripateticae (1581)

    Stefano Gulizia•ARTICLE•Intellectual History Review•2019•References: 8

This paper tries to present a different view of Francesco Patrizi’s anti-Aristotelian philology such as it transpires in his masterful monograph of 1581, the Discussiones Peripateticae, the influence of which was widely felt in seventeenth-century Europe. The book is the product of a learned, Hellenizing, and deeply inspired critique of a major doctrinal corpus from classical antiquity, and it is usually taken as a stepping stone in a self-righte…

  • L’Arcadia sulla luna: Un’inversione pastorale nell’ Orlando Furioso

    Stefano Gulizia•ARTICLE•Modern Language Notes•2008
