  • Relative surplus population and industrial revolution 4.0 in Chile

Open Access•Paula Vidal, Gustavo Durán et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2026

This article operationalizes Marx’s term, Relative Surplus Population, depicting its evolution in the Chilean case between 2010-2022. The findings indicate that over the last decade, while it has not increased in general terms, the relative surplus population has more years of education, is more adult-aged and is more female by the year 2022 in comparison to 2010, with stagnation predominating, as put forth by Marx. This dynamic has intensified, …

  • The geolinguistics of the Ibero-Romance comitative

Víctor Lara Bermejo, Víctor Lara•ARTICLE•Dialectologia et Geolinguistica•2019

The comitative represents a particular case in the Romance languages of the Iberian Peninsula. Except for Catalan, the rest of varieties possess a redundant form inherited from the evolution of the Latin postposition plus the preposition con (‘with’). However, some authors point out a tendency that favours subject forms or even stressed object forms in persons in which the norm prohibits them. With the aim of finding the vernacular responses to t…

  • The politeness of você in European Portuguese

Víctor Lara Bermejo, Víctor Lara et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Hispanic and Lusophone…•2018

The employment of você in current European Portuguese is not clear. Although Brazilian Portuguese has specialised it as an informal pronoun in certain geographical areas within the country, the European variety presents its use in contexts which seem to be contradictory: informal address, formal address and pejorative address. Due to the lack of an in-depth study on the evolution of this form, we have collected data from three different corpora t…

  • Patrones de ergatividad en el español peninsular

Víctor Lara Bermejo, Víctor Lara•ARTICLE•Dialectologia et Geolinguistica•2017

Western Peninsular Spanish possesses a type of causative construction in which an intransitive lexeme is used as transitive. Specifically, the verbs caer (‘to fall’), quedar (‘to stay’) and entrar (‘to enter) can induce a direct object in detriment of the standard verbs tirar (‘to throw’), dejar (‘to leave’) and meter (‘to put in’). This phenomenon (called lability) has not been investigated in depth for Spanish and, with this paper I attempt to …

  • Cooked Bones? Method and Practice for Identifying Bones Treated at Low Temperature

    Open Access•A Solari, D Olivera et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015•Cited by: 9•References: 37

Is it possible to determine low-temperature cooking in archaeological bones? The indirect exposure of bones to fire at low temperature (≤ 100 °C), linked to cooking, produces macroscopic modifications on these bones. These modifications have not been clearly or systematically described previously. Instead, physicochemical changes at nanometric level are only now beginning to be understood. In this paper, our principle aim is to explore new method…

  • Thermal Alterations in Archaeological Bones

    Open Access•Carmen Pijoan, C MA PIJOAN et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2007•Cited by: 32•References: 31

Archaeological bones, found close to Mexico City (Tlatelcomila), with alterations due to probable thermal exposure attributed to a possible case of cannibalism, have been characterized by XRD, SAXS and SEM. It is shown how these non‐destructive techniques, which are not conventionally used in archaeological research, may provide useful information. The deterioration degree of the bone structure is quantified through parameters such as gyration ra…
