  • Tectonic Activity and Site-Formation Processes at Tel Reḥov

Uri Davidovich, Ezra Zilberman et al.•ARTICLE•Near Eastern Archaeology•2022•References: 2

The site of Tel Reḥov is located on one of the most active tectonic fault zones in the Near East—the Western Marginal Fault of the Dead Sea Rift—and was prone to tectonic movements, which had a significant effect on site-formation processes. Geoseismic and geoarchaeological studies conducted as part of the Tel Reḥov excavation project suggest that the site was located on an uplifted tectonic block (horst) bounded by faults on the north, west, and…

  • Geo-chronological context of the open-air Acheulian site at Nahal Hesi, northwestern Negev, Israel

    Open Access•Yossi Zaidner, Naomi Porat et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017•Cited by: 4•References: 11

  • Early pleistocene lake deposits and Lower Paleolithic finds in Nahal (wadi) Zihor, Southern Negev desert, Israel

Open Access•Hanan Ginat, Ezra Zilberman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

An Early Pleistocene fluvio-lacustrine sequence from the extremely arid southern Negev desert, Israel, indicates that climatic conditions during that period were humid enough to support the formation of a lake (Lake Zihor) there. The lacustrine sediments were deposited in a tectonic valley that developed along the Zihor tectonic line after the deposition of the Pliocene Arava Formation. They intercalate with fluvial sediments that contain several…

  • Relief Inversion in the Avrona Playa as Evidence of Large-Magnitude Historical Earthquakes, Southern Arava Valley, Dead Sea Rift

Open Access•Rivka Amit, Ezra Zilberman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1999

The Arava Valley section of the Dead Sea Transform (DST) in southern Israel is characterized by the absence of seismic activity in recent times. However, paleoseismic analysis of sediments in the Avrona Playa, a pull-apart basin along the DST, reveals that at least six M > 6 tectonic events have affected the Avrona playa in the last 14,000 yr. The recurrence interval of the events is approximately 2000 yr. Trenched normal faults and push-up ridge…
