  • A revised stratigraphy for the early Pleistocene terrace sequence of the Gediz river, western Turkey

    Open Access•Darrel Maddy•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Field mapping and GIS visualisation of Quaternary river terrace landforms

Open Access•Chris Meikle, Martin Stokes et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2010

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. This paper presents the mapping results of a Quaternary river terrace staircase associated with the evolution of the Río Almanzora in SE Spain. Prior to map compilation a formal landform stratigraphy was constructed from remote sensing and field reconnaissance using standard allostratigraphic procedures as outlined by the North American Stratigraphic Commission. The stratigraphic…

  • An obliquity-controlled Early Pleistocene river terrace record from Western Turkey?

    Open Access•Darrel Maddy, Tuncer Demi̇r et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2005

Investigation of the Pleistocene sequence of the Gediz River, Western Turkey, has revealed a record of Early Pleistocene river terraces. Eleven terraces spanning the interval from 1.67 to 1.245 million years ago (MIS 59–37) are preserved beneath basaltic lava flows. The high number of terraces over this short time period reflects high-frequency sedimentation/incision cycles preserved due to the fortuitous combination of relatively high uplift rat…

  • Holocene palaeoclimates from peat stratigraphy

Open Access•Keith Barber, Keith E Barber et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Reviews•2003

  • Uplift-driven valley incision and climate-controlled river terrace development in the Thames Valley, UK

Open Access•Darrel Maddy, David Bridgland et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2001

  • A 5500-year proxy-climate and vegetation record from blanket mire at Talla Moss, Borders, Scotland

    Open Access•Frank M Chambers, Keith Barber et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1997•Cited by: 31•References: 2

A monolith of peat taken from an upland blanket mire at Talla Moss, southern Scotland, was sub jected to peat humification and pollen analyses to produce both a proxy-climate record and a vegetational history covering the last 5500 years. While the peat showed little visible stratigraphy, with no intimation of major peat humification changes, colorimetric data indicate a markedly oscillatory climate record, which is apparently largely independent…

  • A sensitive high-resolution record of late Holocene climatic change from a raised bog in northern England

    Open Access•Keith Barber, K E Barber et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1994•Cited by: 43

Proxy-climatic data in the form of plant macrofossils have been analysed from a 5 m core from Bolton Fell Moss, Cumbria, UK. Detailed analysis of peat from the upper 50 cm of this core is used to demonstrate a strong correlation between changes in the relative proportion of taxa and known climatic changes over the last 1000 years. The record of changes in bog vegetation contained within the peat profile is used to reconstruct changes in bog-surfa…
