Durch palatale Dissimilation verschleierte baltische LehnwörterDie ins Urfinnische entlehnten baltischen Wörter haben in den ostseefinnischen Sprachen einige alte Züge bewahrt, die sogar das altertümliche Litauische verloren hat. Altlettgallische Lehnwörter im Mordwinischen
Old Latgalian loanwords in Mordvin? Grünthal (2012) has counted 36 Baltic loanwords in Mordvin and divided them into two chronological layers according to their vowel substitutions. These borrowings have usually been connected to extinct Baltic dialects of the Dnepr and Oka basins, distinct from East Baltic. The Balto-Slavic question in the light of old Baltic borrowings in Finnic
Most of the old Baltic borrowings in Finnic have been discovered through the East Baltic cognates of their loan original. Comparison material from Slavic is nevertheless much more relevant than it has been thought. This is confirmed by 20 Baltic loanwords in Finnic presented here.
