  • Palaeoenvironmental and climatic inferences from the late early Pleistocene lacustrine deposits in the eastern Tiberino Basin (central Italy)

Open Access•Roberto Bizzarri, Paolo Corrado et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2018

Within the Neogene-Quaternary evolution of the Mediterranean intermountain basins, the eastern Tiberino Basin provides new multifaceted chronological, biostratigraphic, palaeoecological, and palaeoenvironmental information, appreciably improving the knowledge of palaeoenvironmental and climate conditions during the middle-late Matuyama Chron (late early Pleistocene). Shallow to relatively deep lacustrine deposits and alluvial plain deposits, magn…

  • Paleoenvironmental context of the early Neanderthals of Poggetti Vecchi for the late middle Pleistocene of Central Italy

    Open Access•Marco Benvenuti, Jean-Jacques Bahain et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

Work on thermal pools at Poggetti Vecchi in Grosseto, Italy, exposed an up to 3-meter-thick succession of seven sedimentary units. Unit 2 in the lower portion of the succession contained vertebrate bones, mostly of the straight-tusked elephant, Palaeoloxodon antiquus , commingled with stone, bone, and wooden tools. Thermal carbonates overlying Unit 2 are radiometrically dated to the latter part of the middle Pleistocene. This time span indicates …

  • Middle-to late-Holocene environmental changes in the Garigliano delta plain (Central Italy)

    Open Access•Piero Bellotti, Gilberto Calderoni et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 8

Geomorphologic, stratigraphic, faunistic, palynological and 14 C analyses were carried out in the area of the mouth of the Garigliano River characterized by two strand plains that are referred to the Eutyrrhenian and the Holocene, rimming two depressed zones separated by the Garigliano River channel. This study depicts the palaeoenvironmental evolution over the last 8200 years and the landscape context at the time of Minturnae Roman colony. Betwe…

  • Land mollusc palaeocommunity dynamics related to palaeoclimatic changes in the Late Pleistocene

    Open Access•Daniela Esu•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • The Tiber river delta plain (central Italy)

    Open Access•P Bellotti, Gilberto Calderoni et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•Cited by: 17•References: 4

Geomorphologic, stratigraphic, faunistic, palynological and carbon isotope analyses were carried out in the area of the Tiber river mouth. The results depict a complex palaeoenvironmental evolution in the area of the Roman town of Ostia, ascertain the changes of the Tiber river delta over the last 6000 years and support a re-interpretation of some archaeologic issues. The wave-dominated Tiber delta evolved through three distinct phases. In the fi…

  • Palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of late Quaternary foraminifera and molluscs from the Enea borehole (Versilian plain, Tuscany, Italy)

Open Access•Maria Gabriella Carboni, Luisa Bergamin et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2010

Foraminifera and molluscs from the 90 m deep ENEA borehole (Versilian plain, central Italy) were studied for paleoenvironmental purposes. Palaeontological analyses, integrated with U/Th and radiocarbon data, helped to recognize late Quaternary sea-level changes and supplied results on tectonic mobility of the area. The study highlighted four sedimentary phases. The first phase consists of a shore environment attributed to MIS 7.1. A hiatus corres…

  • The malacological record from the Middle Pleistocene Piànico-Sèllere Basin (Bergamo, northern Italy)

    Open Access•Daniela Esu, Daniele Gianolla•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2009

  • The malacological record from the Plio-Pleistocene Leffe Basin (Bergamo, Northern Italy)

    Open Access•Daniela Esu, Daniele Gianolla•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2009

  • The occurrence of the genus Tanousia Servain (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Hydrobiidae) in the Middle Pleistocene Piànico-Sèllere Basin (Bergamo, Northern Italy)

    Open Access•Daniela Esu, Daniele Gianolla•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2008

  • Late Pleistocene vertebrate-bearing deposits at San Teodoro Cave (North-Eastern Sicily)

Open Access•Laura Bonfiglio, Daniela Esu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2008
