Movement patterns of raccoon dogs within road networks
Rapid urbanization is expanding road networks worldwide, fragmenting wildlife populations and altering their movement. For urban-dwelling species, this human-wildlife interface can create mortality hotspots and exacerbate human-wildlife conflicts. We studied the movement patterns and behavioral strategies of raccoon dogs ( Nyctereutes procyonoides ) within road networks using GPS-tracking of 34 individuals across urban and rural areas. We examine…
AI-assisted design communication in ceramic-crafts education
This study examines the implementation and effectiveness of AI-assisted visualization tools in ceramic-crafts education, with a specific focus on improving design communication and feedback exchange between instructors and students. Through empirical investigation, we developed and evaluated an AI-assisted visualization tool that leverages state-of-the-art image-generation models to enhance concept articulation in ceramic design practice. Our inv…
Niche Construction of Ban-nong ban-eoh in Southwestern Korea
This paper examines the traditional ecological knowledge that existed for generations along the southern coast in Korea with an example from the site of Gungokri. Traditional subsistence along the Korean coast and islands is known as half-farming and half-fishing, Ban-nong ban-eoh in Korean, and we argue that this strategy applies to over 500 years of history at the site. Our data from 150 b.c.–a.d. 400 focuses on archaeobotanical remains recover…
Hybrid Metaheuristic-Based Spatial Modeling and Analysis of Logistics Distribution Center
The location analysis of logistics distribution centers is one of the most critical issues in large-scale supply chains. While a number of algorithms and applications have been provided for this end, comparatively fewer investigations have been made into the integration of geographical information. This study proposes logistic distribution center location analysis that considers current geographic and embedded information gathered from a geograph…
Too Much Information
Introduction: With the COVID-19 outbreak, South Korea has been making contact trace data public to help people self-check if they have been in contact with a person infected with the coronavirus. Despite its benefits in suppressing the spread of the virus, publicizing contact trace data raises concerns about individuals’ privacy. In view of this tug-of-war between one’s privacy and public safety, this work aims to deepen the understanding of priv…
Dynamic Model for the Epidemiology of Diarrhea and Simulation Considering Multiple Disease Carriers
Diarrhea is responsible for killing around 525,000 children every year, even though it is preventable and treatable. This research focuses on both houseflies' roles and humans' roles in carrying pathogens causing diarrhea as multiple disease carriers. Both human and fly compartmental models are simulated with five diseases control strategies in order to identify the epidemic dynamics. The framework considers the life cycle of flies modeled into e…
Plant remains recovered from the Houtaomuga site in Jilin Province, Northeast China
Within the Dongbei region, Jilin has been left mostly unknown to international archaeological communities, compared to Liaoning and eastern Inner Mongolia. The Houtaomuga site is a good case study that can fill this void, documenting a long-term cultural sequence from the Early Holocene to historical periods. With a discovery of the earliest known pottery in the Dongbei region, Houtaomuga can offer insight into the Early Holocene adaptation. In o…
