In this contribution, long time missionary to Suriname, Joop Vemooij, presents an overview of Winti, a religion rooted in the complex culture of Surinam. After presenting a short history of the religion, Vernooij outlines some of its principal elements, and then presents a pastoral reflection on how Christians need to deal with practitioners of this religion in Surinam itself, and in the Netherlands, where some 300,000 Surinamese live today

In this contribution, long time missionary to Suriname, Joop Vemooij, presents an overview of Winti, a religion rooted in the complex culture of Surinam. After presenting a short history of the religion, Vernooij outlines some of its principal elements, and then presents a pastoral reflection on how Christians need to deal with practitioners of this religion in Surinam itself, and in the Netherlands, where some 300,000 Surinamese live today
