Annie Boyle Hore was born in 1853. In 1881, a member of the Wesleyan Missionary Society living in Bedford, she married Edward Coode Hore (1848-1922), the surveyor of Lake Tanganyika. In 1877 Edward Hore had been appointed scientific officer of a large expedition to Tanganyika with the aim of establishing a mission station and the foundations of a European settlement.
